Hey all, Drunk Female here. I’ll be your primary provider of beer reviews. My qualifications include several terrible homebrews and a casual concern from my parents regarding my “alcohol hobby.”

Our first review is Great Lakes Chillwave Double IPA. I was SO EXCITED about this beer because the bottle is pretty sweet, with a cool surfer catching what I assume is that aforementioned chill wave. The bottle’s side text tells a story about how drinking this beer basically makes you as cool as the surfer dude. I appreciated that boost in self-esteem as I sat on my couch watching Master Chef Junior.

This beer smells like straight-up honey. Like, Jessica Alba wants to star in a movie about this beer. A blind smell test would confuse the hell out of bees (and yes, I am almost positive that bees have noses*). This honey awesomeness continues with the first swig, but it mellows out to sweeter fruit flavors at the end of the sip. I was left with lots of pineapple, citrus, and mango. The hops kind of explode in your throat (ugh, sorry) right at the end, but it’s a quick flash before you’re left with the sweet fruity honey again. All the flavors started to meld together as the beer warmed up, though it’s possible that was due to the 9.4% ABV and the fact that I’d already drank a glass of wine like five minutes earlier.

All in all, this was a delicious and dangerously drinkable DIPA. The honey malt, coupled with Mosaic and Nugget hops, makes it a dream come true for beer drinkers with a sweet tooth. I’m in love with this beer, AND my favorite kid on Master Chef Junior avoided elimination this week–what a wonderful world we live in.

*Google tells me I am wrong. Bees do not have noses. YOUR LOSS, BEES.
