As Valentine’s Day approaches and everyone is scrambling to get their reservations together at T.G.I. Friday’s, the Red M&M is drunk with love.
Introducing Strawberry M&M’s, the newest limited edition M&M flavor to hit store shelves. A Walmart exclusive, I found these Strawberry M&M’s in a dedicated Valentine’s Day display on December 26th – exactly one day after Christmas is celebrated here in the States. Now that I am a food blogger who gets worse at blogging and fatter at living each day, this really got me thinking. Do we, the limited edition hunters of the world, ever get a chance to catch our breath? I have been out of breath since the day we started the blog (even when I’m not doing anything), and M&M’s are a big reason why.
Strawberry M&M’s are the latest Valentine’s Day flavor, replacing Red Velvet M&M’s of yesteryear which totally sucked. Cherry M&M’s are also out (reviewed em!), but those have been released before. Be quick to scoop either of these flavors up if you’re interested, because Easter flavors are right around the corner (I see you Strawberry Shortcake M&M’s). But until then, we’ll have to settle for love.
Strawberry M&M’s are of the milk chocolate variety and come in three colors: red, pink, and other pink. Much like love, strawberry is easy to fake – these candies are made with artificial strawberry flavoring. It’s a little surprising they didn’t go with the ever-so-popular dark chocolate and strawberry combination, especially after they did such a fine job with dark chocolate in Hot Chocolate M&M’s. But love is sometimes funny like that, isn’t it? Since love waits for no one, let’s go right ahead and eat 27g of sugar per serving.
Strawberry M&M’s have a remarkably identifiable strawberry flavor to them. Because M&M’s melt in your mouth and not in your hands, I’m reminded of the syrup inside of a cherry cordial – only what I imagine a strawberry version of this would taste like. So yeah, we’re definitely talking about fake strawberry flavor here (I’m not sure any company will ever be able to replicate an authentic ripe strawberry flavor via artificial means). But in the spectrum of artificial flavors out there, this is a quality strawberry. I’m not gonna lie; I’m really into my Strawberry M&M’s. I can totally eat these all day.
UPDATE: I did eat them all day. And somewhere halfway through the bag, I did start to grow tired of “fake” strawberry. The solution is to eat less of your Strawberry M&M’s; perhaps only the recommended serving size (LOL). But I still really enjoyed these. The milk chocolate is so sweet & creamy that these take on something of a strawberries & cream vibe underneath the chocolate. It’s making me start to appreciate the choice of milk chocolate over dark. I will stop short of saying I love them – love is such an overused word these days. But Strawberry M&M’s are a quality Valentine’s Day flavor that will help comfort me and make me realize it’s okay that nobody loves me or even likes me.

That last sentence of your review. Was it a cry for help ? I’m concerned about you. I think that you should take a stress pill and head to your nearest truck stop and hook up with a lot lizard. Hey, that’s a good idea for a review too !
This entire blog is one big cry for help, Jan!
