Alright, let’s talk for a minute. Muffins should get more love than they do, but they don’t. About a decade ago, the gourmet cupcake market was booming AF. I feel like every TV show was either a Cupcake War or Cupcake Battle or Cupcake Riot or something. The Cupcake Bubble seems to have burst, and I’m pretty sure it’s been replaced with crazy awesome donut shops.  I’m not objecting to that, for the record. But can’t we do the same with muffins? Why is it that muffins aren’t hip? Do people view them as unfrosted cupcakes? Are muffins considered “too healthy?”

Entenmann’s S’mores Little Bites

Not healthy and totally hip are s’mores, so everyone should be able to get behind these Entenmann’s S’mores Little Bites. The S’mores Little Bites replace the incredibly good Entenmann’s Cinnamon French Toast Little Bites as Entenmann’s next seasonal favorite. By now you’ve probably realized that s’mores is to spring/summer as pumpkin spice is to fall/winter. These might be the only two seasonal trends that span two seasons instead of just one. If you wanted to go an entire year eating nothing but s’mores and pumpkin spice things, you shouldn’t have any major difficulties. In fact, these Entenmann’s S’mores Little Bites will be replaced by the Entenmann’s Pumpkin Little Bites in the pretty near future (they’re probably out now).

The Entenmann’s S’mores Little Bites have a discernible graham cracker aroma that is mostly artificial but completely appetizing. You can discern chocolate chip in the scent to a lesser degree. The balance between the two scents is exactly the balance you’ll experience between the two flavors once you dig in. The muffins are moist and sticky like honey, and you’ll taste that honey in the way that it’s sweetened. The muffins are surely sweet enough, but it doesn’t taste like a buttload of table sugar was dumped into the muffins (even though there was). There’s a browned sugar and molasses complexity to these, and the elements of graham ring true.

Entenmann’s S’mores Little Bites have a good deal of chocolate chips that will offer even-more-little rushes of chocolate to the little muffins. The combination of the graham cake-like muffin and the chocolate chips do all the legwork making these taste like a muffin inspired by s’mores. The little white marshmallow chip thingies do not, but there’s something about the combination of the sweetening agents that convinced me these had a light marshmallow flavor to them. What also helps this is the muffin being soft and fluffy in and of itself, like a puffy marshmallow in a way.

The first criticism is the obvious one: what the hell am I supposed to do with only 4 mini muffins? I know I should be used to this by now (they are, after all, called LITTLE BITES), but 4 soft & chewy mini-muffins are finished almost before you had a chance to enjoy them. I would say just reach for a second pack, but then you’ll be penalized 360 cal and 36g of sugar and still not feel like you’ve had enough. My second and final criticism is that I wish the chocolate chips or marshmallow thingies were crunchy. S’mores need some crunch somewhere, and s’mores things are less fulfilling when it’s all just mush.

In summary, these mushy s’mores work a lot better than they should.
