REVIEW: Caramel Apple Milky Way
A list of fall flavors, by Junk Banter:
1) Pumpkin Spice
5) Pumpkin Spice
Poor caramel apple. The number 2 flavor of fall is so overlooked because the gap between 1 and 2 is massive. It’s incredibly difficult to stuff my face full of caramel apple when my face is already full of pumpkins.
Caramel apple is the Scottie Pippen to the Pumpkin Spice Michael Jordan.
Despite the mountain of obstacles affecting my ability to perceive it, Milky Way Caramel Apple caught my attention because 1) it’s covered in chocolate and 2) it was directly next to the Hershey’s Kisses Pumpkin Spice.
Milky Way Caramel Apple debuted back in 2012 and has returned every fall since. They’re only available in miniature form, which should help me preserve some of my appetite for that sweet, sweet pumpkin spice minutes after I conclude this review. One downside is that you have to buy a gigantic bag filled with 40 mini Milky Way Caramel Apple. If they suck, I will give the rest away to a bunch of little bastards on October 31st. If they’re great, I will be the fat bastard giving away shitty candy to a bunch of little bastards on October 31st.
Milky Way Caramel Apple features a milk chocolate coating surrounding a layer of caramel and a separate layer of nougat. Time to play Dr. Fatass and perform junk food surgery to figure out where the apple flavor lies.
I bit just the chocolate first – it’s the standard Milky Way fare.
Just the caramel next – same.
Success or failure for Milky Way Caramel Apple will come down to this apple flavored nougat. I still don’t know what nougat is.
Yum! The apple flavored nougat is simultaneously fluffy and chewy with a pretty pleasant but definitely artificial apple flavor. There’s some faint warm spice flavoring here, somewhere between cinnamon and nutmeg in its intensity. Considering the texture and flavor that nougat possesses, I found a marshmallowy component to this filling as well.
There’s a lot going on with Milky Way Caramel Apple, but something about these just feels right for fall. I found the combination of milk chocolate and caramel apple to be unique and likable despite it tasting like a test tube. Halloween candy should be playful and fun. Milky Caramel Apple is exactly that. With the chocolatey exterior, the treat tastes more like a candied apple with a bunch of delicious crap on it than it does a traditional caramel apple. I always preferred candy apples anyway, so I’m into it. At least in miniature doses…
In summary, where the f*ck is Milky Way Pumpkin Spice?
Pumpkin Spice Scottie Pippen Rating: 6.5 out of 10
Pumpkin Spice Michael Jordan Rating: 10 out of 10
Overall Rating: 7.5 out of 10
