The world is still buzzing about the . By “world” I mean “me” and by “buzzing” I mean “eating right now.” But before I even had a chance to digest the first one I ate six weeks ago, Hostess has come buzzing back into headlines with pumpkins.

Hostess Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Twinkies are the newest variety, debuting alongside the returning Pumpkin Spice Twinkies. The no-cheesecake variety disappointed just like nearly every Twinkie that hasn’t been deep fried in fat, but at least they didn’t contain the word “”

Unfortunately, these ones do contain the word “cheese.” Cheese and Twinkies should never be that close to proximity in a product title. I tried with every pumpkin spice in my body to avoid eating another Twinkie after being let down so many times, but pumpkin prevails yet again.

Hostess Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Twinkies are white fudge covered Twinkies with a pumpkin spice cheesecake filling. The crisp white fudge coating is tastier than you might expect. It’s sweet, it’s creamy, and it has a light vanilla flavor that gives this Twinkie some added character. Anything to distract from the Twinkie itself.

The pumpkin cheesecake filling is far and away better than the plain pumpkin spice version. I can taste cinnamon and nutmeg without forcing my tiny Twinkie brain to search for it. Very pronounced. I don’t get the cheesecake piece, but I don’t really trust Hostess enough to tackle cheesecake anyway. There is real cream cheese in here somewhere though. The result is a damn tasty pumpkin spice cream that’s just a little more creamier than standard fare.

When I reviewed the , I found that the white coating was completely redundant when paired with the marshmallow flavored creme. This is 100% not the case with the Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Twinkies. The sweet white chocolate displaces emphasis entirely unto the pumpkin spice cream. I mean that in the best way possible.

Now for the worst part about the Twinkie: the Twinkie. My God this is one rubbery cake that’s dry as shit. The very thing holding this product back is the product itself. What a shame.

Still the best Twinkie in a long while, though.

In summary, they should have deep fried these ones.
