Hostess has developed something of a hybrid approach with these new Hostess Hot Cocoa & Marshmallow Mini Donuts. Eat these donuts through the winter to stay warm, fat, and happy until the spring donuts come out. Then repeat until… umm..

Hostess Hot Cocoa & Marshmallow Donettes are mini chocolate donuts with something of a glaze, possibly marshmallow flavored. They look a lot like most chocolate bagged mini donuts and will probably taste just like them too.
Yep! Hostess Hot Cocoa & Marshmallow Donettes taste like shitty bagged chocolate donuts. Sometimes little chocolate donuts sold in such fashion really surprise the hell out of you, but not these. These disappoint the hell out of you.
To answer the most pressing question, Hostess Hot Cocoa & Marshmallow Donettes taste nothing like hot cocoa. Hot cocoa is sweet and creamy and milky, but these donuts are just donuts. The chocolate isn’t rich; the cocoa flavor is pretty muted and they aren’t as sweet as the sugar content would suggest.
To answer another relevant question, the sweetness tastes nothing like marshmallow. Nothing. Not even close.
So the final question is: are Hostess Hot Cocoa & Marshmallow Donettes even worth buying? No, not really. The Hostess Double Chocolate Mini Donuts are way better than these, and their silky chocolate frosting somehow does a better job replicating hot cocoa than this grainy, sugary glaze.

All the more reason that I think of myself as a genius for my weekly visit to Dinky Donuts for chocolate only munchkins…
The only thing that can battle with that are those sleeves of donuts that I got fat on in high school (can’t remember company).
It’s difficult to be truly disappointed in a chocolate donut. Some of this can be chalked up to expectations, but I was truly disappointed with these donuts.
