In the words of the late great Ludacris (he’s alive and well, folks):
I wanna, li- li- li- lick you from your head to your toes
And I wanna (sexually explicit and suggestive lyrics)
….what’s your fan-ta-ta-sy?
Here’s mine: the new Edy’s/Dreyer’s Cake & Cookie Fantasy Frozen Yogurt!
If you wanna rejuvenate your fro-yo line, this is how you do it. Just feast your eyes on this description: red velvet cake and sugar cookies frozen yogurt swirled together with decadent cookie dough and chococolate cookie crumbles.” Apparently I can’t spell in my fantasy, because “chococolate” is really how it’s printed.
In the words of legendary diva Mariah Carey (RIP, New Year’s Eve 2017):
“Mmm, baby I’m so into you
Darling, if you only knew
All the things that flow through my mind…”
It’s a sweet, sweet fantasy indeed, and what’s flowing through MY mind are all the things I want to do to this fro-yo.
I started by eating it.
Oh no, this was a mistake… Oh God.
The vast majority of this container is the pink “red velvet” frozen yogurt. It doesn’t taste anything like a cake flavor, and I didn’t really get any traces of cocoa. The flavor blends completely with the white “sugar cookie” flavor, which tastes like nothing. But the real problem is that Cake & Cookie Fantasy is sour. Not just tangy… it’s sour.
I’ve never had any other flavor of Edy’s/Dryer fro-yo, so I’m not sure if they all share this quality or not. There’s enough sugar in here to keep you from gagging but I just can’t get over the way it finishes. The cookie dough pieces are the most prominent mix-in and help redeem this slightly. The chocolate cookie crumbles are exactly that – crumbles. They’re so tiny and there’s barely any here, which is a shame because they do taste like Oreo cookie wafers when you find ’em.
I’ll also add that this frozen yogurt is anything but a diet product. One serving has 150 calories with 4.5g of fat and 18g of sugar. Their slow-churned ice cream flavors have better nutritional qualities than this and they don’t taste like gym socks. Cake & Cookie Fantasy would have worked a helluva lot better as a slow-churned ice cream flavor with no yogurt.
In summary, the reality is never as good as the fantasy.
