When your Grandma is a basic bitch too… 👵🏻💁🎃

They finally got to Grandma, and Grandma’s candy dish now offers pumpkin spice for the first time in history.

Werther’s Original Pumpkin Spice Soft Caramels join the returning Caramel Apple Soft Caramels in an effort to make Werther’s sexy again. Werther’s Caramels have been around since 1903, about 110 years before white girls were even invented. It’s encouraging to see that this company still follows food trends even though death looms largely at their age.

The caramels are soft instead of hard, since that’s what Grandma is used to these days.

This review will be short and sweet (like Grandma!).

For the most part, Werther’s Original Pumpkin Spice Soft Caramels just taste like their regular soft caramels. This is great news for both biological Grandmas and young Grandmas-at-heart because Werther’s does make a damn good caramel. They’re supremely buttery, creamy-sweet, a little salty, and they offer a nice chew.

There’s not many ways to photograph a caramel and make it look good, so here’s the same shot with one standing up instead of lying down.

Werther's Pumpkin Spice Soft Caramels

Werther’s Original Pumpkin Spice Soft Caramels are billed as soft and creamy caramels with a touch of pumpkin spice, and they’re not kidding when they say a “touch.” The pumpkin spices are really, really subtle. I’m guessing Grandmas will settle for any touches they can get, but for something with PUMPKIN SPICE written in big, capital letters on the package, it’s a let down. There’s no actual pumpkin spices used in the recipe, and I can’t even pinpoint cinnamon or nutmeg or anything specific flavor wise. The pumpkin spices need to be turned up.

Pumpkin Spice Soft Caramels are another one of those products that taste satisfying despite missing the mark. However, I’ve got no choice but to levy a penalty for failing to deliver on their promise.

In summary, Grandma’s not as sharp as she used to be.

Grandma’s Basic Bitchiness Rating: 3 out of 10
A Grandma’s Touch Rating: Soft out of 10
Overall Rating: 6 out of 10
