Quick Bites are rapid-fire reviews without the lame story – just the important points.
Today’s Quick Bite is:
Breyer’s 2 in 1 Oreo & Chips Ahoy!
With everyone trying their hand at light ice cream these days, it’s easy to forget about good ole’ Breyers – who makes their ice cream so light that’s it’s technically not even ice cream.
Many of you know all about this, but an even greater number is oblivious, so let me science ya’ll right quick.
This Breyer’s 2 in 1 Oreo & Chips Ahoy flavor – like many Breyer’s creations – is “frozen dairy dessert.” This term is used when a product doesn’t meet the FDA’s two criteria to be legally called “ice cream.” The requirements are:
- Must contain at least 10% milkfat.
- Must contain no more than 100% overrun (the amount of air whipped into the base).
In short, Breyer’s frozen dairy dessert either has too little milk/cream, too much air whipped into it, or both.
But Breyer’s 2 in 1 Oreo & Chips Ahoy! is exactly the shitstorm of flavors and cookies that it’s gonna take to make me buy frozen dairy dessert: vanilla and caramel flavors with both Oreo and Chips Ahoy! cookie pieces mixed in.
The quarts are split half and half, or at least they were supposed to be. Mine favored the vanilla frozen dairy dessert more than the caramel.
The vanilla side is sufficiently Oreo with fair representation of chewy cookie pieces. Mindless sugary satisfaction. For the price… this half isn’t half bad.
The caramel side doesn’t taste like caramel. I find this true of many caramel ice creams, but especially true of this frozen dairy dessert. Just a boring sweetness, and most of the Chips Ahoy! cookie pieces aren’t big enough to keep this side of the container too interesting. When I did get a larger chunk, I actually enjoyed this mix-in.
The fact that this was frozen dairy dessert really didn’t squash this – the Oreo half is quite tasty, especially for a lower calorie option. It’s just that the caramel side is only mildly flavored, and I would have loved more (or bigger) Chips Ahoy! pieces since this classic cookie isn’t represented in many ice creams.
Burning Questions:
- Is each cookie on both sides? Mostly no – just some crossover where they merge.
- How many calories per serving? 130 calories
- What percent milkfat are you? 100%

I’m not crazy about Chips Ahoy, but I absolutely love Oreo… I actually use pulverized Oreos as the base for my homemade cheesecakes. This “dairy dessert” looks really delish and I am definitely going to have to pick it up the next time I see it at the store. Thanks for the review! ?
Oreo cookie crust!! Feel free to invite me over next time you make one. Thanks for reading Jennifer!
