If you could travel the world and eat exotic, regionally-inspired M&M’s in each place you visited, which countries would you choose?
Well you don’t get to choose; the countries are Mexico, England and Thailand.
M&M’s Flavor Vote 2019
Mars has brought back its popular Flavor Vote competition, and this time they’ve put an international spin on it. The three flavors, all Peanut M&M varieties, are:
- Thai Coconut Peanut M&M’s
- Mexican Jalapeno Peanut M&M’s
- English Toffee Peanut M&M’s
For this year’s contest, Mars is basically bribing us to take action. Simply cast your vote through the Flavor Vote Website or text “Vote” to 84444 and you’ll be entered to win a trip to all three countries.
Not a bad deal for eating some candy that I was going to buy anyway.
My bags are already packed (sombrero, a power adapter, bug spray, and a stomach pump), so let’s get right into the flavors.
This review is part two of a three-part series:
Thai Coconut Peanut M&M’s
According to Mars, Thai Coconut Peanut M&M’s is “a savory sweet taste inspired by the tropics of Thailand”, which in Thai translates to ” รสชาติหวานเผ็ดแรงบันดาลใจจากเขตร้อนของประเทศไทย (#9 lunch combo).”
Rejected flavors include Pad Thai Peanut M&M’s, Chicken Satay Peanut M&M’s, and Grass Jelly Peanut M&M’s.
Holy CRAP these are the most flavorful and most accurate M&M’s I’ve ever eaten!
The Thai Coconut Peanut M&M’s taste like just about any Thai curry peanut sauce I’ve ever dumped onto a bowl of white rice in my lifelong career of being a fatass. I’m amazed at how well they pulled this off!
I understand that curry might not be something you want to associate with chocolate candy, but trust me… these Thai flavors (whether curry or ginger or whatever it may be) combine wonderfully with the sweet coconut flavor, and prove a worthy complement to the candy-coated, milk chocolate-covered peanut.
The peanut trapped inside also does a good deal of legwork for the Thai vibes contained within, and these remind me of how much I miss the Coconut M&M’s that used to exist. But I’ll ALWAYS prefer Peanut M&M varieties over ones sans any peanut, and the artificially flavored Thai spices just work so much better than I anticipated they would.
What I will say is that I expect many people will be downright afraid of these, or that they may consider it too bold a flavor to enjoy on the regular. I am not one of those people.
I highly recommend you try Thai Coconut Peanut M&M’s even if you do have poignant reservations. The balance between the flavors is immensely snackable with coconut, chocolate and peanut still leading in such a way that these still feel like candy and not dinner.
Call me an adventurous soul, but I’ll be adding M&M’s to my chicken Pad Thai tonight.
Burning Questions:
- What if I’m allergic to peanuts? Then don’t buy them.
- What if I don’t like Thai food? Then you’re a fool.
- What if I don’t like M&M’s? Why are you even reading this?

Me too! I wish they would bring them back. They were a regular offering for a while.
