Listen, we can all agree that incest is disgusting, but when it comes to the Frito-Lay family?

Sometimes things are just so wrong that it’s right, and that very well may be the case here. Everything from Frito-Lay just had an orgy and then this happened: three new limited edition chips that are all lovechilds of Lay’s potato chips and other Frito-Lay classics. Introducing:
- Cheetos Cheese Flavored Lay’s Chips
- Doritos Cool Ranch Flavored Lay’s Chips
- Funyuns Onion Flavored Lay’s Chips
Another way to look at it? Lay’s found a great recycling program for all that seasoning at the bottom of the bag.

Dorito’s Cool Ranch Flavored Lay’s Chips
So this is what the world has come to: chip flavored chips. You might be thinking this is the laziest idea ever, but I say cut Frito-Lay some damn slack. 2020 was a REALLY draining year for everybody. It might take a bit more time to get the creative juices flowing their normal speed.
Doritos Cool Ranch Lay’s chips are exactly what you expect them to be and nothing more: Cool Ranch seasoning sprinkled on Lay’s potato chips.
I have no doubt in my mind that this is the same Doritos Cool Ranch seasoning, but how does it translate on a Lay’s chip? Well it’s a pretty interesting exercise: if you eat them without thinking about Cool Ranch Doritos, then they kind of just taste like a cheddar sour cream & onion blend. But once you think about Cool Ranch Doritos, there’s no mistaking it.
Overall, I found myself missing the corn tortilla base of the Doritos version. Once that Lay’s greasy potato flavor hits, it becomes difficult to discern this chip from other flavors that exist year-round. It’s a fun idea that ultimately results in a lesser product.
Like everything else, we’ll just blame it on 2020.
