I promise you your screens aren’t broken, but the cereal game just may be…
Post Chicken & Waffles Honey Brunches of Oats
This reeks of an April’s Fools prank, but 23 days before it on March 7th, 2019, Post released a *Chicken & Waffles Cereal* for National Cereal Day…
I can say with confidence that this may be the only cereal that I eat with Chick-Fil-A sauce instead of milk.
You gotta hand it to Post. Everyone is out there releasing weird Sour Patch Kids cereal, Dippin’ Dots Cereal, Peeps Cereals…meanwhile Honey Bunches of Oats literally sells bunches of oats.
It was time to make a splash, and call this keeping up with the Joneses in a BIG way…
Chicken with milk! Only in America would this kinda shit happen. Except it’s also available in Canada, because sometimes our grossness spills over.
Post really pulled out all the stops on presentation. In addition to the regular flakes and clusters common to all Honey Bunches of Oats, they added waffle-shaped pieces as well as pieces that are shaped like friggin’ chicken drumsticks. They are both adorable and unsettling at the same time.
So the waffle pieces are nothing new or unusual, but they are quite good. Post recently discontinued its Waffle Crisp cereal (which makes me sad), but these taste identical to it (because it probably is it). Artificial as it may be, they possess solid maple flavor with a hint of butter too.
The chicken pieces, which thank God do not use any real chicken, are seasoned well with a savory blend. It’s very strange to see onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, marjoram, sage, and thyme all used on a cereal box, but I’ll be damned that I can taste all of it. Eating a few in isolation will really let you appreciate what Post has done here, whether you love them or hate them for it.
If this were a proper brunch I’d eat it with a mimosa, but all I had was milk…
Post Chicken & Waffles Honey Brunches of Oats is not an obnoxious cereal to eat – especially in milk. There’s a good mix of flavors between the sweet waffles and savory drumsticks, and they all combine and complement each other well with the flakes and clusters. If anything the milk really reduces the intensity of the savory seasoning, so there’s not all that much to fear here.
A novelty by its very design, the Post Chicken & Waffles Honey Brunches of Oats should be applauded. It’s a very tongue-in-cheek cereal that both capitalizes on and pokes fun at how ridiculous we all eat food in this country. It’s not the best cereal of all-time, but it’s far, far from the worst.
Could use a little more garlic.

“Except it’s also available in Canada”
DEAR SWEET HOLY KENTUCKY FRIED JESUS, PLEASE TELL ME WHERE??!!? As a novelty-loving Canuck who has to *constantly* drive over the boarder and make road trips into the USA to buy Limited Edition foods and Special flavours that are *never* available at home for me, I would love to know where these cereals can be found in Canada!!
I have been hunting for Chicken & Waffles AND Maple Bacon Donuts for breakfast ever since March 7!
I’m sorry but I’m not sure which stores, I just recall seeing some pics floating around Instagram of the Canadian version!
