Pink Lemonade. Root Beer Soda. Jolly Ranchers.
Of all the bizarre flavors Pop Tarts has ever done, this one’s got to be the most twisted!
Kellogg’s Pretzel Pop Tarts
Guys, I’ve got Dad Jokes for days, and I’m going to share some while I sit here and wait for my new Kellogg’s Pretzel Pop Tarts to toast.
Why was the mushroom invited to the party?
Because he’s a fun guy!Why do watermelons have fancy weddings?
Because they cantaloupe!Did you see the movie about the hot dog?
It was an Oscar Weiner! What do you do if life gives you melons?
See a doctor, because you’re dyslexic! Why did Junk Banter eat his homework?
Because the teacher said it was a piece of cake!
Yeah, so all my dad jokes are about food or being fat, but it’s because I can’t wait to tear into these very exciting Pretzel Pop Tarts.
And at least I don’t have to worry about getting fat today, because pretzels are low in carbs…
Since they’re knot bread!
DISCLAIMER: These things are absolutely loaded with carbs.
This review is part of a series. Today’s Pretzel Pop Tart is:
Kellogg’s Chocolate Pretzel Pop Tarts
If you haven’t already guessed, Kellogg’s Pretzel Pop Tarts introduce a brand new pretzel crust complete with surface salt.
Make no mistake I can smell the hell out of the pretzel as soon as I tear open the package.
I tried nibbling around the corners to isolate the crust and, well… for most bites I mostly tasted normal Pop Tart dough. BUT, every once in a while the Pretzel Gods put all the pieces together and I was hit with the salty pretzel vibe they were going for. It’s just a shame it’s not consistent on the palate.
I worked my way to the chocolate interior and this brought good news and not-so-good news. The GOOD news is that the chocolate filling is delicious as most Pop Tart fillings are, with a fudgey, brownie-batter-like flavor. The NOT-SO-GOOD news is that it felt like less filling than most Pop Tarts offer, and the filling’s flavor made it even harder to detect the twisty pretzel nuances of the new crust.
Toasting is the move…
Heating Kellogg’s Pretzel Pop Tarts in the toaster not only improves the overall flavor, but it introduces more elements of the pretzel. I got a few more little bursts of salt in those warm, toasty bites. While some prefer room temp or even frozen, Kelloggs Pretzel Pop Tarts are one of those that you should toast 10 out of 10 times.
One thing I appreciate about this new pretzel crust is that it’s lighter and less dense than their usual pastry. However, I still wish the pretzel crust tasted a bit more like a big ole’ soft pretzel more than it actually does.
Maybe some mustard will do the trick?
I actually didn’t hate this, but in this moment… I definitely hate myself.
Burning Questions:
- Where do pretzels go on vacation? Pretzelvania!
- What happens when two pretzels get married? They tie the knot!
- Your pretzel jokes suck. I am in-salted!
