There’s no one – and I mean NO ONE – who stalks the English muffin aisle more than Junk Banter…
You probably don’t know this because it was so long ago and because you don’t read my blog, but once upon a time, English muffin reviews were commonplace for Junk Banter. I’ll never forget the day in our infancy when my former co-blogger texted me asking if Apple Pie English muffins were considered “junk food” and fair game for a review. Not only was I fascinated that an apple pie could be an English muffin, but also… sure, why the hell not? We make the rules here.
In the months that followed, I quickly discovered that Thomas’ had a knack for making exotic. English muffins. Within about 18 months there were also:
- Pumpkin Spice English Muffins
- Maple French Toast English Muffins
- Banana Bread English Muffins
- Salted Caramel English Muffins
- Bacon Buttermilk Pancake English Muffins
- S’mores English Muffins
I had developed such a strong affinity towards English Muffins that I actually had to write a break-up letter to the Maple French Toast muffins at one point.
Then for the next 4 years, nothing. Just a huge English muffin void in my heart whenever I walked down the aisle and discovered no new muffin innovations.
Needless to say, I’m ready to mend some fences…
Thomas’ Cinnamon Bun English Muffins
Description via Thomas’: The original Nooks & Crannies English Muffin made with real bits of cinnamon to make your day even sweeter.
Description via Junk Banter: Imagine you go to the mall and there’s just a kiosk of English muffins.
It must be said upfront: Thomas has a total mastery over whatever technique makes something smell so incredible right through the package. The scent of cinnamon buns is so inviting that these English muffins will just leap into your cart before you can even realize what’s happening and where the smell is coming from. Be sure to soak it in.
Throughout the Thomas Cinnamon Bun English muffins, you can see these little tiny pockets of what I assume is sticky cinnamon and sugar. The ingredient list says these are also made with cream cheese, but I definitely don’t taste it. I just taste cinnamon, and it works well here.
These are definitely stronger on the cinnamon side than they are the sweet side. In fact, I don’t think anything really stands out that pushes these closer to cinnamon bun English muffins than simply cinnamon. There’s probably a touch more sweetness is all, but don’t expect a balls-to-the-wall flavor like the Maple French Toast or Banana Bread muffins had.
I toasted one and put some butter on it, and my thoughts on it remained the same. A very good, perhaps unspectacular, cinnamon-flavored English muffin.
Of course, nothing I just wrote matters until what I’m about to.
I slapped some icing on one… didn’t even toast it, and it was incredible. There’s something about the natural doughiness of an untoasted Thomas’ English muffin that really elevates this to a suitable cinnamon bun substitute. Just buy whatever generic icing or frosting you can find and have at it.
You’re welcome.
Burning Questions:
- Why do I feel like this isn’t the first time you’ve put icing on bread. It’s cake!
- What else would be good on these? Doesn’t matter; use the icing.
- Are you sure that’s a healthy breakfast option? If you’re buying cinnamon bun English muffins for breakfast, you have no right to ask this question.
