We’ve long known that salt makes most food taste better, but it wasn’t until 2008 that we discovered what it can do to caramel. The “salted caramel craze” hit the U.S. around that time and though it’s lost some momentum over the years, it never truly went away. I suppose it’s no longer fair to call it craze; salted caramel is just now “a thing.”
With caramel as a centerpiece of the iconic Twix, the idea to add salt to it was an obvious, easy one to conceive…
So the U.K. thought of it first.
One year and a global pandemic later, Twix Salted Caramel is finally available in the U.S.
If you came here expecting a 300-word breakdown, you must be mistaking me for a good writer. This is just a Twix where the caramel “pops” a little more. It’s just the right amount to be noticeable, without feeling like you’re eating a Twix you found in the ocean. Overall, I enjoy it.
But is it an upgrade? I’m not so sure. It feels like a lateral move that depends entirely on your salting preferences.
