Cold Brew Coffee: It’s the cool thing to do. ~ Official tagline for Cold Brew Coffee that I made up.
Not just coffee, not just iced coffee, but frigid, wonderful cold brew coffee is all the rage right now. Because nothing says “I put more love into this coffee” than one that takes 12 hours to make.
And you know what’s even cooler than cold brew coffee? Cold brew coffee in ice cream!
And you know what’s even cooler than cold brew coffee ice cream? One with truffles in it!!
And know what’s cooler than cold brew coffee ice cream with truffles? When the truffles have coffee too!!!
AND YOU KNOW WHAT’S COOLER THAN TH—
Okay, okay… you get the idea, but check out this cool new Ben & Jerry’s Chillin’ the Roast Truffles ice cream that must have taken 12 YEARS to make…
Ben & Jerry’s Chillin’ the Roast Truffles features cold brew coffee ice cream with chocolate cookie-covered coffee liquor truffles & fudge swirls. If you blinked or just weren’t reading this review (you’re not), you might have missed the chocolate cookie-covered part of the coffee liqueur truffles.
I don’t know guys… I just think this new ice cream sounds pretty cool.
With no room for debate, this new cold brew coffee ice cream is the coffee-est coffee ice cream Ben & Jerry’s makes. Compared to their regular coffee ice cream they use in several flavors like Coffee Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz, or the coffee caramel ice cream in One Sweet World, the base in Ben & Jerry’s Chillin’ the Roast Truffles is less sweet but more bold – an impressive, full-bodied flavor for coffee fanatics.
No matter where you ultimately land on the coffee-liqueur truffles, I guarantee they’ll take you by surprise. These are some boozy liqueur truffles, with a bite that’ll have you wondering: how many of these do I need to get drunk? I can easily see some people being turned off – even disgusted – if liqueurs aren’t their cup of tea. Even I enjoy a stiff booze now and then (right now, for instance), but I’m not all-in on these truffles. The chocolate cookie coating slipped off most and provided minimal impact. Still, I have to admire Ben & Jerry’s bravado.
The sweet fudge swirls in Chillin’ the Roast help cut the bite from the truffles, and pair well with the coffee base as chocolate often does. Personally, I could stand for more swirl than what was offered in my pint.
Needless to say, Ben & Jerry’s Chillin’ the Roast is certainly not a flavor for everyone. You have to really enjoy your coffee and really enjoy your booze. Under that umbrella, it’s a pretty solid ice cream carried mostly by an exceptional new cold brew coffee base. Just make sure you know exactly what you’re getting into when you pick it up.
And maybe call a DD if you’re planning on driving – because this shit might have you drunk or bouncing off the walls or both.
