Ladies and Gents, I’d like to introduce to you the most clever no-brainer that’s ever existed.
Hot Cocoa Cocoa Puffs, or Hot Cocoa² Puffs, is a level of genius so obvious that it’s elementary.
You see, all General Mills did was add marshmallows to a cereal I was probably never going to buy again, and, through that one mere addition, they made me want to build a snowman, become best friends with it, and share some Cocoa Puffs with it.
I mean c’mon… the word “cocoa” means nothing to me anymore, but the words “hot cocoa?” Christmas? SANTA? HELLO!?
They even gave Sonny a pair of ice skates and let him zip & glide around a gigantic mug exploding with hot chocolate, cereal, and marshmallows on the box art.
People… holiday cereals are magic.
And maybe it truly is magic at play here, but I never realized just how much Cocoa Puffs tasted like hot cocoa mix until now. I do recall them having the most chocolate flavor of all the popular pure chocolate cereals, and my recollection feels accurate today. The glazed corn pieces have a great crunch and a deep cocoa profile that supplants the corn flavor instantly on each bite.
F*ck out the way, corn – it’s Christmas!
I suddenly realize it tastes like hot cocoa powder baked directly onto cereal, only with less sugar.
Thankfully, the awesomely sweet marshmallows unique to the holiday version take you the rest of the way to hot chocolate. They’re large, crispy, and there’s plenty of ’em. It’s immensely appropriate for how you’d serve hot cocoa on a cold, wintry night.
And you wanna talk about the best chocolate milk? Let the puffs soak for a while… they hold their crunch just fine, and produce one of the most flavorful cereal milks. Heat this shit up and you’ve got yourself some makeshift hot chocolate.
In summary, this hot cocoa processed with alkali is pretty damn good.
