After years and years of arduous testing, Hostess has finally figured out that chocolate and peanut butter taste good together, and they are ALL IN:
First, Christmas came early with new Hostess Peanut Butter Ho Hos. I’ll be Ho-Ho-Hoing my way to a holly, jolly physique in no time if these are any good. The little kid within me couldn’t dream up a better gift from Santa himself: I no longer have to choose between the classic Ho Ho and one of my other favorites – Drake’s Funny Bones. Thank you Fall Santa for gifting me this opportunity; I can now ask Winter Santa for lipo.
And that brings us to yet another new Twinkie. A few months ago, Hostess realized that “sponge” is a terrible flavor and kicked the tires on some new , not to be confused with their new and improved Chocolate-Covered Twinkies. They then swapped out the original cream for peanut butter to arrive at these Chocolate Peanut Butter Twinkies. I’m looking forward to the Peanut Butter Fudge-Covered Chocolate Cake Twinkies with Peanut Butter Filling that’ll be out like, next week at this rate.
Peanut Butter HoHos
Hostess Peanut Butter HoHos are chocolate cakes rolled with peanut butter creamy filling. Credit is due here: there’s real peanut butter in Hostess Peanut Butter HoHos, and the cream tastes very good. The flavor of dry roasted peanuts is evident very quickly with some salty notes that you won’t find in classic HoHos. Just know that this peanut butter is also on the sweet side, which is what you crave from HoHo.
When these Peanut Butter HoHos first debuted, I knew the peanut butter was authentic because I got tiny shards of peanuts between my teeth. This texture turned me off, but I tried them again recently and they seemed to smooth out this issue.
The peanut butter filling is still a little thicker than I want it to be. HoHo’s signature is fluffy creme, and this iteration has little fluff. If Santa had also given me the will to get off the couch and do things, I would hollow out a HoHo and fill it with Pillsbury Peanut Butter Frosting; it’s much softer and would have been the ideal texture for something like this.
I still enjoyed my Peanut Butter HoHos despite these minor shortcomings. It’s a classic snack remade with a better flavor profile.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Twinkies
And now the one that nobody cares about: Hostess Chocolate Peanut Butter Twinkies.
Look, I don’t blame you. Twinkies have gotten a bad rap for a while now because of people like me who like to bully them on the Internet. I know cyberbullying isn’t cool and all,l but Twinkies totally deserve it. I grew up on them, which qualifies me to say they haven’t been very good in a very long time.
This also qualifies me as an old, crotchedy man.
For what it’s worth though, Chocolate Peanut Butter Twinkies are the best in a while. The chocolate cake is way better than the golden sponge, with deep & dark cocoa notes. It’s less dry too. The chocolate tastes more genuine than the waxy-sweet coating in the Peanut Butter HoHos, but I’m not going to pretend that I don’t love the coating on the latter. The salty-sweet peanut butter filling tastes the same in both, but it’s more mousse-like in texture here.
I’ve seen some other bloggers comment that the Chocolate Cake Twinkies are less oily than regular Twinkies. This is true for the most part, but the bottom of the Twinkies are still quite oily. Run your finger along the surface area of the bottom and then wipe your face, and I’m positive you will spawn little Twinkie zits to show off to your friends.
Still a very solid Twinkie for a change.
