Ahhh! Zombie ice cream! 🧟♂️
Ben & Jerry’s Dublin Mudslide
Dublin Mudslide is Ben & Jerry’s newest flavor. But before that, it was dead.
If you’re thinking, “You’re drunk, Ben & Jerry’s… we want new flavors, not old ones”, they might actually be. That’s because Dublin Mudslide is a liqueur-inspired ice cream featuring an Irish cream base, double chocolate chip cookies, and a coffee fudge swirl.
Truly, a spirit has risen from the Flavor Graveyard.
It’s important to note that there is something different this time around. Ben & Jerry’s has teamed with Wheyward Spirit – a speciality spirit company who focuses on environmental sustainability and reducing food waste. Inside Ben & Jerry’s Dublin Mudslide is a hint of this brand new, award-winning spirit that’s made from whey, the nutrient-rich liquid left behind from making cheese.
Now, Wheyward Spirit was kind enough to send me a sample of their spirit and I actually really enjoy it. It tastes like smoother, sweeter saké with hints of vanilla and oak. If you’re interested in trying, you can buy some here.
At the same time, something tells me that if Ben & Jerry’s were to keep making flavors using leftover cheese juice, then there will be more flavors hitting the Flavor Graveyard shortly thereafter.
It’s not hard to see that Ben & Jerry’s Dublin Mudslide is absolutely loaded with mix-ins. There are only two, double chocolate chip cookies and a fantastic coffee fudge swirl, but they both work fantastically in a mudslide-inspired ice cream. I will say this: I had two pints of Dublin Mudslide (one I had bought in stores and one Ben & Jerry’s sent to me) and the ratio of mix-ins couldn’t have been more opposite. One was OVERFLOWING with coffee fudge swirl and a much smaller amount of double chocolate chip cookies, while the other was lighter on swirl and overcompensating with the amount of cookies.
I really hope this was a random fluke and the reality is somewhere in the middle, because this flavor is exceptional.
I love the flavor of Irish cream and this base is so smooth, sweet, delicious. It has a ton more personality than the usual chocolate, vanilla, caramel, etc. bases we see with most Ben & Jerry’s flavors. And when you get a bite with the coffee fudge swirl and a chewy chocolate chocolate chip cookie? Holy Moly.
And don’t worry – it doesn’t have a strong alcoholic bite, nor does it taste like leftover cheese.
Flavor Graveyard? More like Flavor Heaven!
Burning Questions:
- How can they call this a “Fan Favorite” if they discontinued it so quickly? A riveting question.
- Why did they have to use a whey-based spirit? I’m lactose intolerant so I can’t eat this. You wouldn’t have been able to eat it anyway; it’s ice cream.
- I make an exception for ice cream. Well, I make lots of exceptions for alcohol…

I used to love this flavor back when it first came out, but I hate the taste of alcohol, so I didn’t like it this time around
