Chance, you had ONE chance…
Ben & Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Chance
Listen, I’m not going to pretend I know anything about Chance the Rapper, but here is my best guess:
- His name is Chance.
- There’s a good chance that’s not his real name.
- He is a rapper.
But there’s one thing I can say with certainty: Chance’s taste in ice cream? Pretty boring!
Ben & Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Chance is mint ice cream with fudge brownies. Look, I get it… not everyone is adventurous when it comes to ice cream. For many, including (apparently) Chance, the simpler the better. If Ben & Jerry’s were to ever collaborate with Junk Banter, we’d all be forced to eat deep-fried pumpkin pie ice cream with chocolate covered gummy worms and a marshmallow French fry swirl.
However, SURELY we can do better than this:
The mint ice cream? Delicious and serviceable.
The brownies? Excellent.
The problem? There’s just not enough brownies to be memorable, and the profile too similar to a basic mint chocolate chip.
I’ve been too spoiled by Ben & Jerry’s flavors through the years to get excited for Ben & Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Chance. Currently you can buy Ben & Jerry’s Topped Thick Mint, which features dark chocolate mint ice cream with chocolate cookie swirls, mint chocolate cookie balls, chocolate cookies, and chocolatey ganache. We’ve also recently had Ben & Jerry’s Minter Wonderland – dark chocolate mint ice cream with marshmallow and chocolate cookie swirls. Hell, a few years back we even had Ben & Jerry’s Empowermint, which is this exact same flavor but with fudge swirls too.
For Mint Chocolate Chance to shine, it really needed to be LOADED with brownies. Unfortunately, my pint was not. It was good when it had them, but for some portions of my pint, the description might as well have been: “Mint ice cream with nothing.” If it had maybe one other component mixed in to liven up these spots, I’d have little criticism to offer.
All that being said – if you just want to chill out with some minty ice cream with brownies in it, you should buy this when it hits stores in early 2022. Especially because it’s for a good cause: a portion of proceeds will benefit Chance’s non-profit SocialWorks, which aims to empower youth through the arts, education and civic engagement.
…he’s a lot better at philanthropy than he is at creating flavors.

” the profile too similar to a basic mint chocolate chip” Gotta disagree here. Brownies are far superior to chocolate chips. I don’t understand frozen chocolate. It’s supposed to melt in your mouth not crunch. But brownies? Oh yeah.
Texture wise? You got me. But even though brownies are far superior (agreed), there just isn’t enough of them to make this much different than any other mint + chocolate combination in my opinion!
