How do you make Half Baked a whole lot better?
You just full-ass some peanut butter right up in there, of course.
Five years ago, Ben & Jerry’s released this very pint – Peanut Butter Half Baked – to celebrate the 15 year anniversary of the original Half Baked. Just last year, Half Baked continued to rank as Ben & Jerry’s most popular seller, a spot it’s held since dethroning Cherry Garcia from the top spot in 2013. This shouldn’t come as a surprise; it mixes the two most classic ice cream flavors, chocolate and vanilla, with gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough and fudge brownies.
Peanut Butter Half Baked was first released as a limited batch. It keeps the chocolate ice cream and fudge brownies from normal Half Baked, but swaps out the vanilla ice cream and chocolate chip cookie dough with a peanut butter ice cream and peanut butter cookie dough. Instead of limited batch, it now enters the everyday lineup as a “Fan Favorite!”
An alternative title would be: “Someone Who’s Allergic To Peanut Butter’s Nightmare.”
Guys, what the hell do you want me to say about this? You know this is very good.
You’ve had Ben & Jerry’s chocolate ice cream, you’ve had Ben & Jerry’s peanut butter ice cream, and they go together like lamb and tuna fish. ? The salty peanut butter ice cream arouses me more than the chocolate does, but the combination of the two working in tandem yields a better product than regular Half Baked.
Now sub in the peanut butter cookie dough from The Tonight Dough, and the fudge brownies from, like… half of their flavors. It’s the abundance of mix-ins that serves as Peanut Butter Half Baked’s biggest strengths.
I read some prior reviews from the 2015 version of Peanut Butter Half Baked, like this one from our friends at The Impulsive Buy, and they all noted monstrous gobs of peanut butter cookie dough. If anything, the brownies in mine were the larger chunks. The size of my peanut butter cookie dough was more consistent with those in the bags of Ben & Jerry’s Snackable Dough, but this wasn’t a problem because of their sheer quantity.
Pack yourself a bowl, scoop yourself a bowl, and welcome back a fan favorite.
