While I rarely, if ever, forget the cake, it’s nice to know that someone has my back if I did.
Don’t Forget Cake
So we’ve come to this: personal layer cakes with screw-on caps that we can tackle at will like the savages we all are. They’re just like those edible, ready-to-eat cookie doughs that I also have in my fridge as we speak, except they’re fully prepared cakes.
Don’t Forget Cake markets Don’t Forget Cakes as portable, portion-controlled cake-in-jars that are neater than cupcakes and can be eaten comfortably on the couch or on the road – the latter of which assumes you are eating it all at once, or traveling with a refrigerator.
All three flavors I found – Red Velvet, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Carrot Cake – use real cream cheese frosting.
Red Velvet
Red Velvet is the most straightforward of the three but a good showcase of what we’re dealing with here. It has layers of red velvet cake and vanilla cream cheese frosting. The cake has appropriate cocoa and vanilla notes and it’s certainly red, though the real winner is the wonderful tangy & rich cream cheese frosting.
The cake isn’t the most moist one you’ll ever eat, nor is it too dry. It’s pretty good for something that holds up to 60 days in the fridge.
I doubt it lasts 60 minutes.
Chocolate Peanut Butter
Chocolate Peanut Butter kicks things up a notch with a peanut butter chocolate cake, cream cheese frosting, and a caramel sauce.
Also the most fattening, this is sure to be a crowd pleaser. While both flavors are noticeable, the cake favors chocolate over peanut butter. But the caramel sauce does wonders to transform this one into a more unique and decadent offering. And it’s not often we get cream cheese frosting on chocolate peanut butter cake, which most often uses chocolate or peanut butter frostings.
Well played.
Carrot Cake
My favorite of the three is the Carrot Cake. The cake part is the most flavorful as its made with fresh carrots, dried coconut, pineapple, and spices. I’m tempted to toss some crushed walnuts into this one.
Authentic and delicious.
Summary
Don’t Forget Cake is cake whenever you want it, and God help me if I don’t use this as some sort of cake dip in the near future.
Right now, distribution isn’t huge but hopefully expanding. Their website lists only select Walmarts, Weis Markets, and Giants. It may seem cruel of me to review something that many of you can’t procure yet, but if some Junk Banter praise can play a small part in getting these into more stores, then it’s worth it.
Unfortunately it doesn’t.
Burning Questions:
- How many calories per cake? Who cares!
- I kind of care. Between 750 and 970 calories.
- Should I eat the entire jar in one sitting? No (yep).
Place of Purchase: Giant
