You asked… it’s back!
You’re probably the ones that killed it, but it’s back!
General Mills Chocolate Toast Crunch
Apparently five years ago, you guys didn’t know WHAT you wanted. General Mills Chocolate Toast Crunch debuted in 2014 and was discontinued by 2016. I can’t imagine they’d give it the axe if it sold well, so you’re all officially charged with murder.
But in the words of the great Joni Mitchell, Joan Jett, Janet Jackson, and probably some other artists with a lot of “J”, you don’t know what you’ve got til’ it’s gone. You all missed Chocolate Toast Crunch sooo much once it was finally dead.
Some of you even rallied to bring back the cereal, culminating in a Change.org petition that reached a staggering 293 supporters back when we all thought Change.org actually inspired change. One supporter, Adam Wessel, wrote eloquently:
I MISS THE FLAVOR OF BOTH THE CINNAMON AND THE COCOA POWDER MIXED TOGETHER. WHY ONLY HAVE ONE FLAVOR IN A CEREAL WHEN YOU CAN HAVE TWO.
Well said, Adam… well said.
To be clear, I use the pronoun “you” and not “we” because I myself never clamored for this cereal’s return. I was too busy fighting a long, arduous, and successful battle to bring back a better Toast Crunch – Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch, which both debuted and died the same years that Chocolate Toast Crunch did. To be honest I would have also welcomed the departed Peanut Butter Toast Crunch back before Chocolate Toast Crunch, as I quite enjoy peanut butter on my toast.
But this is a big win for those of you who spread chocolate on your toast each morning.
General Mills Chocolate Toast Crunch isn’t just another chocolate cereal as its name might imply. It’s made not only with real cocoa, but also cinnamon like its father (or brother? I’m not sure how cereal families work). The balance should favor chocolate, as the description reads “naturally flavored chocolate sweetened wheat squares with a hint of cinnamon.”
This is definitely the case dry, and this cereal is definitely worth the revival.
Chocolate Toast Crunch is one of the more chocolatey cereals on the market, with a bold and sweet chocolate flavor that finishes with the same sugary finish as Cinnamon Toast. But it’s also one of the most unique; the little flash of cinnamon makes it the closest thing we have to a Mexican Hot Chocolate Cereal.
Or… think Cocoa Puffs crushed up and sprinkled onto Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Milk washes away some of the cereal’s flavor, which I think is just the sad reality of cereal that I point out in every review. But what remains is still a GOOD cereal. The wash-away effect parallels that which occurs in Cinnamon Toast Crunch, so align your expectations accordingly.
Or I suppose you should know EXACTLY what to expect, since you’re responsible for this cereal’s second coming…
You asked, it’s back, now don’t f*ck it up again.
Burning Questions:
- Which cereal do you want us to bring back next? Hidden Treasures.
- Great, we’ll start a Chang.org petition to make sure that never happens. Why…
- Your blog sucks! WHY DO YOU HATE ME?

Did you stock up on Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch btw? I’ve seen a few boxes show up at Dollar Tree (alongside cases upon cases of PB Blasted Shreds or whatever that cereal is). And although that might simply be a seasonal clearance, I think the fact that they have extra stock going through discount channels doesn’t bode super well for another return.
