General Mills Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch
The year was 2011. You were probably not buying Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch because you didn’t know it existed. If you’re like me, you didn’t know it existed because this was the same year that a cereal called Crunchy Nut came out and that’s the only cereal I bought in 2011 because you have to repeatedly buy a cereal with a hilarious name like Crunchy Nut.
Fast forward to 2020, and Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch came back. If it weren’t for this blog, you would still not know it existed because – I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention or not – but 2020 was effectively cancelled and you still haven’t been allowed outside your house.
So let’s talk about a cereal that you’ll probably never try.
Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch is squared-shapes instead of spherical, and has what looks like little chocolatey chips studded on the outside (they’re not actual chips – just decoration).
I’ve read multiple reviews from 2011 (like this one and this one and this one) and they all say that it tastes exactly like Cocoa Puffs or that it sucks. I personally don’t think either is necessarily true. The flavor is demonstratively chocolatey in a way that of course feels very Cocoa Puffs, but I think it’s a bit bolder than that. In addition to the usual cocoa processed with alkali, the ingredient list includes unsweetened chocolate – an ingredient absent in the original Cocoa Puffs.
Now, I’m not gonna sit here and say these taste anything like brownies. The best way I could describe them is like Sonny and Shiela G went cuckoo for each other and made a lovechild cross-breed between Cocoa Puffs and Brownie Brittle. This cereal takes after its father more than it does its mother, but I think the comparison is a fair one.
Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch holds up well in milk and produces some nice chocolatey cereal milk.
In summary, you’ll probably never have Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch and 2020 can go suck a crunchy nut.
Burning Questions:
- Why was Crunchy Nut discontinued? Because it was called Crunchy Nut.
- Are these better than Cocoa Puffs? I think so.
- What should Cocoa Puffs do next? Cocoa Puffy Crunchy Nut.

I love this blog. Binge reading everything.
I found these way too hard on the teeth. Maybe I was too high, but the crunch was overwhelming and the chocolate flavor plainly “meh.” 5/10 at best.
