You see, they call them “FILLOWS”, because they’re FILLED, and they look like PILLOWS… ?
One of the reason I like General Mills Fillows before I even put them in my mouth is because I feel like this is exactly what I would have named them.
Of course if I were in charge, popular cereal names would look a little something like this:
Current Name | My Name |
Raisin Bran | Farty Flakes |
Lucky Charms | Marshmallow Soup |
Froot Loops | Fruit Loops |
Life | Death |
Oreo O’s | Life |
At any rate, it appears as if General Mills is coming out swingin’ at Kellogg’s because these creme filled cereals look like Krave on Krack…
And with both Pillsbury and Hershey’s on board (and with a whopping 19g of sugar per serving), hopes are mighty high…
This review is part of a series. Today’s General Mills Fillows is:
General Mills Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme Fillows
As suspected, the parallels drawn to Krave’s appearance don’t end there as this cereal tastes like an evolution of Kellogg’s Double Chocolate Krave. BUT, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s a better iteration. The chocolatey flavor is deeper, and the creme inside is not only brighter, but more abundant…
If you like snacking on cereal dry, then you’re in for a real treat. I’m two days past opening this cereal and the crunch it exudes far surpasses most cereals (I’m thinking the foil bags have something to do with this). The chocolatey flavor is similar to, but decidedly better than, Cocoa Puffs Cereal with a chocolatey profile that feels more in the Hershey’s cocoa family than any other cereal I can remember.
The colossal crunch makes for an utterly satisfying snack…
In milk, the extra crunch really proves a calculated, intended design. Soaked for minutes, the crunch is still excellent. And when biting through, your teeth and taste buds both feel the transition from crunchy exterior to soft, creme-filled interior.
I’ve heard from some comments on my Instagram that they wish there was more creme inside of here. I disagree vehemently, because not only do I detect more sweetened creme than any Krave flavor, I find the balance perfectly decadent and without any remedial action required. It’s pretty much exactly what it purports to be, although the comparison to the Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme candy bar is a little exaggerated (this tastes more milk chocolatey than white chocolatey, though both flavors are here).
In milk and without, the Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme cereal is dangerously addictive. The whimsical naming convention is entirely appropriate.
