With Halloween just around the corner, what’s spookier than a ghost?
The ghost pepper, of course – at least if you’re a little bitch…
Ghost Pepper Chex Mix
That wouldn’t be me, though, because I love spicy snacks and I’m stoked to try these Ghost Pepper Chex Mix!
Oreos will always be my jam, but when it comes to savory/salty snacks? Chex Mix ranks at the top of my list alongside the entire Cheez It family. The Honey BBQ is my personal favorite but I’ve yet to try a flavor of Chex Mix I didn’t enjoy.
I frequently use them as croutons on my salad, because I am the very definition of health.
When you open the bag of Ghost Pepper Chex Mix, you’ll get a whiff of heavy spice that lets you know immediately that they’re not messing around. Everything in this bag is heavily seasoned – taking on a nice red-orange hue.
The Chex cereal pieces are the best vehicle for assessing the spice. It’s a very tasty, tangy heat right off the bat. It’s important to note that this seasoning isn’t just a gimmicky heat; there’s good hints of garlic and onion making it more a more complex flavor instead of just amplified heat level. The spice isn’t so strong that you can’t taste the underlying Chex/pretzels/rye chips/breadsticks either – at least not at first.
But man, this heat hits a second and third gear a few moments after chewing. Eat an aggressive handful and you’ll feel sweat start to tingle on your forehead, a little run in the nose, and a tickle in the back of your throat. Quite impressive, but not for the faint at heart.
The heat is definitely more noticeable from the Chex than the other pieces. But I have to say: it even helps gives some character to the pretzels – which I always think are the weak spot in the Chex Mix due to lack of salt. Suddenly they are interesting.
Ghost Pepper Chex Mix delivers exactly what it promises. It’s kind of interesting though – the mix is addictive and you want to eat more, but your senses warn you to pause and take breaks because the heat is intense. I stopped eating them before I really wanted to simply because I didn’t want to torture myself.
It’s like the ghost peppers are whispering: “Slow down, Fatass. Booooooo”
Burning Questions:
- Don’t they already have a Hot & Spicy Chex Mix? They do.
- Are these hotter & spicier? They are.
- When are you gonna eat more? I am right now.
