The original Kit Kat was born on August 29, 1935.
Some 85 years later, and on the wrong day by about 4 months, it’s finally getting some cake.
Hershey’s Birthday Cake Kit Kat
Well, at least some American cake… there have been so many flavors internationally and though I’m pretty sure none were funfetti cake, I can’t be too sure because I’m not fluent in Kit Kat Japanese. But as America furiously tries to play catch up on its limited edition flavors that have contributed to the brand’s resurgence in global candy rankings, we are the ones blessed with the Birthday Cake Kit Kat bar.
If you’ve ever had a birthday cake without sprinkles, then surely the person who got it for you doesn’t love you and your birthday actually didn’t count that year. But thankfully, Hershey’s loves Kit Kats and they must love us too! The Birthday Cake Kit Kat is so adorned with sprinkles that it’s unlike any other Kit Kat I’ve ever laid my eyes on. The sprinkles are embedded within the outer white creme, especially apparent through the top of the bars.
The sprinkles used are the rounded nonpareils. What I really like is that you can noticeably detect their presence in each bite. They add a crunchy, playful grit that’s a different texture from the delicate wafers, inner creme, and chocolatey coating.
The sprinkles also add their own flavor to the Birthday Cake Kit Kat. The outer white creme is also “birthday cake flavored” but won’t be anything unfamiliar to those who’ve tried the Kit Kat White. I do think I taste a little extra oomph – whatever it is that’s supposed to make this taste like birthday cake. They certainly didn’t go overboard with birthday cake flavoring, which I personally appreciate thought I suspect some will wish it were amped up.
Birthday Cake Kit Kat is a winner in my book, a festive extension of the Kit Kat White.
Happy “It’s Definitely Not Your Birthday”, Kit Kat!
Burning Questions:
- Can I make up my own birthday too? No.
- Did anyone ever get you a cake with sprinkles? …next question.
- So by your logic you’re still zero years old? Shut up! ?
