REVIEW: Kellogg’s Banana Creme Frosted Flakes

by Junk Male · March 4, 2019

I don’t know if tigers like bananas or not. I mean I know it’s not like a THING that tigers like bananas, but I wouldn’t rule it out and mass media has certainly never popularized the notion.

I do know that tigers are big, powerful creatures that probably devour a ba-jillion calories a day, so they probably would eat bananas if you put some in front of them, and maybe they would like them…

Now curious, I Googled “tiger banana” for some insight.

Here’s some interesting photos I found:

This tiger is clearly eating a banana, but doesn’t look especially happy about it (also if you look closely, it is clearly a man).

This book title strongly leads me to believe that tigers don’t eat bananas, but I’m not about to buy and read a BOOK, so I guess I’ll never know why it thinks they don’t.

I don’t WHAT the hell is going on here, but this is a drawing by Hayley10058 who clearly has some kind of imagination.

I only ask the question because for the second time in its history, there is a Banana Frosted Flakes.

Kellogg's Banana Creme Frosted Flakes

Debuting almost 40 years after the original Banana Frosted Flakes, Tony added some creme and has introduced Banana Creme Frosted Flakes to the family for a limited time.

Unlike Chocolate Frosted Flakes that use real cocoa, Cinnamon Frosted Flakes that use real cinnamon, and Honey Nut Frosted Flakes that use real honey, Tony used no real banana in Banana Creme Frosted Flakes.

So win, lose, or draw on today’s review, I will still never know if tigers like bananas…

And maybe Tony likes it, but I definitely don’t.  The flavor is strong but firmly in the artificial banana category, which we all know can be hit or miss. For me, this misses on almost all fronts.

The inherent flavor of sugary Frosted Flakes help this cereal survive, but it’s sorely lacking compared to other banana cereals. Banana Nut Cheerios is a fantastic cereal that tastes of real banana puree and it runs circles around this cereal. On the artificial banana front, it doesn’t have the same success as the Nilla Banana Pudding cereal, which tasted just like banana instant pudding and had gigantic cereal marshmallows (why, oh why, doesn’t this cereal have marshmallows?!) Hell, Kellogg’s Banana Creme Frosted Flakes has much more banana flavor than the Banana Split Dippin’ Dots Cereal, but in this case I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

After a while, this banana flavor conjured a comparison to those gross Circus Peanuts, and from that point on this cereal was doomed. It’s all I can taste now, and I officially hate this cereal.

Milk helped because it washed away most of the banana flavor pretty quickly, and it eventually just started tasting like regular Frosted Flakes (big upgrade).

Nope. I don’t even care to learn whether or not tigers like bananas anymore…

Just get this cereal away from me.

Burning Questions:

  1. Tigers don’t like bananas, you idiot. Ok…
  2. What is actually happening in Haley’s picture? A banana is clearly taming a tiger in a hat.
  3. …You drew that picture didn’t you?  And I did a good job, too.

Place of Purchase: Sent to me by Kellogg’s (thanks guys!)
