Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we have a true battle of the two super heavy weights in the food world.
In one corner, Reese’s cups…
In the other? Corn.
Kellogg’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Pops
Now, I know what many of you are thinking: Corn Pops are great, but I’ve never binge-eaten corn on the toilet like I have Reese’s Cups. Flavoring Corn Pops with chocolate and peanut butter may seem like an automatic upgrade to some, while to others it may be total blasphemy. Me? I tend to err on the side of “chocolate and peanut butter make most things better.”
Corn Pops are probably one of the most underrated cereals in America. Try naming a list of cereals that produce better cereal milk. Go ahead and really think about it. You may have a couple on your list, but the list is really short. That’s because the milk Corn Pops produce is magical.
I don’t think enough people talk about Corn Pops, but maybe it’s time we ought to.
Kellogg’s new Chocolate Peanut Butter Pops have peanut butter as the third ingredient and chocolate as the sixth, but the very first ingredient remains MILLED CORN, so there is a little something for everyone.
HOWEVER, all I really taste is peanut butter to be honest. The powdery coating is a blend of peanut butter and semisweet chocolate, but it’s the PB that prevails. It’s strong enough that it overpowers the natural taste of Corn Pops and the chocolate notes, yet somehow still manages to be pretty light on peanut butter compared to other popular PB cereals.
It’s definitely not a bad cereal by any stretch, but I do think it’s a lackluster one. Perhaps a little more burst of sugar or a bigger presence from the chocolate would give this cereal the depth it needs to warrant future consideration. Milk helps a little bit, but I am still disappointed overall.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Pops are a lot better on paper than they are in reality, which could explain why this cereal only existed briefly in 2007 before discontinuation shortly thereafter. My advice? Just stick to regular Corn Pops.
WHAT AN UPSET BY PLAIN CORN.
