Just because you can’t travel doesn’t mean you can’t eat like sh*t all across the country!
Introducing Lay’s Flavor Icons! Sure, there are plenty of delivery services that will ship food from iconic restaurants all over the country right to your doorstep, but only Lay’s can deliver that exact same experience in a bag that’s half-filled with air.
For this new line, Lay’s has teamed with specific restaurants in different regions of the country to produce five exciting new flavors:
- Lay’s Kettle Cooked New York Style Pizza, inspired by Grimaldi’s Pizzeria of Brooklyn, NY.
- Lay’s Philly Cheesesteak, inspired by Geno’s Steaks of Philadelphia, PA.
- Lay’s Nashville Hot Chicken, inspired by Party Fowl of Nashville, TN.
- Lay’s Wavy Carnitas Street Taco, inspired by El Torito of Marina del Rey, CA.
- Lay’s Chile Relleno, inspired by Cocina Azul of Albuquerque, NM.
Who needs social interaction and fine dining when you can have a bag of chips in the same clothes you wore yesterday!?
This review is part of a series. Today’s Lay’s Flavor Icons is:
Lay’s Kettle Cooked New York Style Pizza
Here’s what I know about Grimaldi’s: Nothing.
Here’s what I know about New York style pizza: It’s the best pizza on the planet.
Lay’s New York Style Pizza seasoning contains ingredients such as tomato powder, mozzarella cheese, extra virgin olive oil, garlic and parmesan.
Listen, I grew up in a part of Jersey close enough to New York that we stole all their all good pizza recipes. I don’t know what it is that makes New York style pizza so much better, but it just is. Some say it’s the New York tap water, others say it’s the older ovens, and others just say it’s better because we know a guy in the mafia that will kill you if you disagree.
But what I do know is this: these chips rule.
From the tangy tomato sauce to the mozzarella cheese to the hint of garlic, Lay’s Kettle Cooked New York Style Pizza checks all the right boxes. I especially like how the kettle-cooked vehicle adds a crisp, greasy component to remind me of a good pizza crust. If you’ve never had authentic New York pizza and have no reference point for what it might taste like, this of course is not a perfect replication, but the flavor profile is a good approximation in potato chip form. Cheesy, greasy, and not overly sauced nor too much crust.
You could also probably convince me this is mozzarella sticks with fresh herbs and spices dipped in marinara.
No pizza is bad pizza, and I’ve yet to have a bad pizza-flavored chip from Lay’s.
Burning Questions:
- Who’s your guy? Tony.
- Deep dish is better. It’s better at being lasagna.
- I think this would be better with pineapple. I’m calling Tony…
