Just because you can’t travel doesn’t mean you can’t eat like sh*t all across the country!
Introducing Lay’s Flavor Icons! Sure, there are plenty of delivery services that will ship food from iconic restaurants all over the country right to your doorstep, but only Lay’s can deliver that exact same experience in a bag that’s half-filled with air.
For this new line, Lay’s has teamed with specific restaurants in different regions of the country to produce five exciting new flavors:
- Lay’s Kettle Cooked New York Style Pizza, inspired by Grimaldi’s Pizzeria of Brooklyn, NY.
- Lay’s Philly Cheesesteak, inspired by Geno’s Steaks of Philadelphia, PA.
- Lay’s Nashville Hot Chicken, inspired by Party Fowl of Nashville, TN.
- Lay’s Wavy Carnitas Street Taco, inspired by El Torito of Marina del Rey, CA.
- Lay’s Chile Relleno, inspired by Cocina Azul of Albuquerque, NM.
Who needs social interaction and fine dining when you can have a bag of chips in the same clothes you wore yesterday!?
This review is part of a series. Today’s Lay’s Flavor Icons is:
Lay’s Philly Cheesteak
Here’s what I know about Geno’s: There’s a better cheesesteak place across the street.
Here’s what I know about Cheesesteak: You can’t beat Steak-umm’s.
Lay’s Philly Cheesesteak seasoning consists of flavors such as beef, cheddar cheese, onion and spices.
The first flavor I get with Lay’s Philly Cheesesteak is mostly that of seasoned beef (or at the very least, some kind of meat). It has the same kind-of-artificial element that bacon-flavored chips often has, but that’s not to say it’s totally offensive. It just seems to be the reality of most “meaty” chips.
The second most prominent flavor I get is sautéed onions. And in my opinion, any proper cheesesteak is loaded with grilled onions. Load ’em up real good and make my breath nice and stinky. ?
The issue I’m having with Lay’s Philly Cheesteak is that they’re not nearly cheesy enough. This tastes like a meaty onion & potatoes dish far more than it does a cheese-smothered sandwich. The spices are just a little too heavy and the final result is pretty flat. They kind of taste like a less-seasoned Sour Cream & Onion chip with a smack of meat. That’s clearly a miss and not exactly a ringing endorsement for Geno’s Steaks.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it one more time: Can’t beat Steak-ummm’s.
Burning Questions:
- You’ve gotta be kidding me. Steak-ummm’s? Can’t beat em.
- How do you order a cheesesteak at Geno’s? “Whiz wit.“
- What happens if you order it any other way? They beat the shit out of you.
