Just because you can’t travel doesn’t mean you can’t eat like sh*t all across the country!
Introducing Lay’s Flavor Icons! Sure, there are plenty of delivery services that will ship food from iconic restaurants all over the country right to your doorstep, but only Lay’s can deliver that exact same experience in a bag that’s half-filled with air.
For this new line, Lay’s has teamed with specific restaurants in different regions of the country to produce five exciting new flavors:
- Lay’s Kettle Cooked New York Style Pizza, inspired by Grimaldi’s Pizzeria of Brooklyn, NY.
- Lay’s Philly Cheesesteak, inspired by Geno’s Steaks of Philadelphia, PA.
- Lay’s Nashville Hot Chicken, inspired by Party Fowl of Nashville, TN.
- Lay’s Wavy Carnitas Street Taco, inspired by El Torito of Marina del Rey, CA.
- Lay’s Chile Relleno, inspired by Cocina Azul of Albuquerque, NM.
Who needs social interaction and fine dining when you can have a bag of chips in the same clothes you wore yesterday!?
This review is part of a series. Today’s Lay’s Flavor Icons is:
Lay’s Wavy Carnitas Street Taco
Here’s what I know about El Torito: Nothing, because I’ve never been to Marina del Rey.
Here’s what I know about street tacos: Nothing, because I’m always blacked out when I order them.
Lay’s Wavy Carnitas Street Taco seasoning includes ingredients such as garlic, jalapeño, cheddar & Swiss cheeses, spices, cream, and bacon fat.
This is definitely one of the more complex, layered seasonings Lay’s has done. And for the most part, I’m enjoying it. It’s one of those things where you probably wouldn’t guess the dish they were going for if going in blind, but once they tell you it’s a street taco, you’re like: “OHHHH yeah, I kinda get that. Hey, is that bacon fat?”
The chips aren’t overly meaty, which is great because it lets all the different components of this “taco” get some attention. I get a certain “freshness” that I attribute to flavors like lime, cilantro, and jalapeño pepper. This definitely isn’t a spicy chip (at least it shouldn’t be for most people), but it packs a strong punch of flavor that some will probably find to be too much because not everyone wants potato chips that taste like specific meals. And some just don’t want chips that taste like any kind of meat, period.
I am not one of those people. I think Lay’s Carnitas Street Taco is a unique, tasty chip that you should have a run at.
I suspect these would go great with a million cervezas.
Burning Questions:
- Where’s your favorite place to get street tacos? Taco Bell.
- That’s not a street taco place. My Taco Bell is on a street.
- That’s not what they mean by stre- . You should try the street Doritos Locos street tacos.
