The new treats are made by Hudsonville Ice Cream – a brand that’s been around since 1926 that you might not have heard of until February 1st when all 7 of these Little Debbie Ice Creams showed up on your Facebook feed and instantly gave all of your fat deposits an erection.
The ice creams are available exclusively at Walmart, where they’ll be available year-round for just $2.50 a pint!
This review is part of a series. Today’s Little Debbie Ice Cream is:
Little Debbie Zebra Cakes Ice Cream
Little Debbie Zebra Cake ice cream features white cake ice cream with yellow cake pieces and a milk chocolate fudge swirl.
The first thing I wanted to tackle was whether or not this “white cake ice cream” was simply vanilla or something more whimsical and cake-y, but I immediately ran into a problem. The fudge swirl is lightly rippled throughout nearly every bite, making it difficult to detect small differences in the base. I’m confident enough to say that it mostly tastes like plain vanilla ice cream. However, it’s tasty enough and I’m not mad like I was with the vanilla in Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies Ice Cream, because this pint actually has a strong amount of mix-ins.
Back to the chocolate fudge swirl for a second. This isn’t necessarily a complaint, but it tastes so much like Hershey’s Syrup that I found it hard to believe it’s not. It’s just a little jarring because there’s a big difference between an actual chocolate fudge swirl and something you’d squirt into a glass to make chocolate milk. Luckily, I like the flavor and there’s really a good amount of it.
The only drawback to the swirl is it’s so thin in most spots, so while you certainly get its flavor, you don’t get that immediate and intense satisfaction you would if there had been concentrated pools of it.
The best way to describe the cake pieces in Little Debbie Zebra Cakes ice cream is serviceable. They’re just plain pieces of yellow cake and not like a frosted Zebra Cake or anything, but they taste good enough. As expected, they’re pretty chewy but again – there is a good amount and I’m glad they’re there.
Overall, this is a good deal for $2.50. A little plain, but so is a Zebra Cake.
Burning Questions:
- I KNOW you didn’t just call my Zebra Cakes plain… Oh I bet you looove Fancy Cakes too.
- Yes! They’re so fancy! No they’re not.
- Have you tried the Zebra Cake Rolls? They’re the best! They’re just longer Zebra Cakes.
