When the flavor’s falling a little flat, the solution is simple.
Just add salt.
Milky Way Salted Caramel
At least that’s what Mars is banking on with their new Milky Way Salted Caramel bar…
Caramel is the hallmark of the Milky Way bar (sorry, nougat), but 10 out of 10 people with brains agree that salted caramel is the superior caramel.
The question to explore today is clear: Will 95 extra milligrams of delicious, artery-clogging salt be enough to make these stand out from the rest of the pack?
Nothing new visually on Salted Caramel Milky Way, so I guess the extra salt is contained strictly in the caramel (probably why they call it salted caramel).
My first bite offers nothing glaring. I don’t have a regular Milky Way at the ready to compare directly, but I shouldn’t need to. I can’t really tell the difference from this and what my memory tells me a regular Milky Way tastes like.
The more I concentrated and the more I chewed though, I got little bursts of salt flavor here and there. Overall I’d say that’s an upgrade over the original, but here’s the thing: If your main thing is already caramel, and then you release something that specifically advertises a salted caramel, you really better BRING IT. This definitely does not bring it.
Salted Caramel Milky Way could have been much more. Maybe a sprinkling of salt on top of the chocolate would help deliver the extra flavor immediately instead of you having to work for it.
Or perhaps I’m just a little salty myself…
Burning Questions:
- How much salt do you want? All the salt.
- How do you know the nougat isn’t salted? I’m not sure.
- What is nougat? I have no idea.
