REVIEW: Pumpkin Spice Moon Pie

by Junk Male · November 9, 2020

Quick Bites are rapid-fire reviews without the lame story.

? When the moon hits your your eye like a big pumpkin pie, that’s… amore. ?

Pumpkin Spice Moon Pie

Pumpkin Spice Moon Pie

Description: The orginal marshmallow sandwich has a brand new coat and a fresh pair of UGGs.

You know you know what a Moon Pie is, but you probably haven’t had one in about 20 years. That’s all about to change when you get your grubby little paws of new Pumpkin Spice Moon Pies, available for a limited time this fall. A normal moon pie takes two graham cracker cookies, sandwiches marshmallow between them, and coats them in chocolate. This is the same thing but with a pumpkin spice coating replacing the chocolate.

Pumpkin Spice Moon Pie

My only major reference point for pumpkin spice marshmallows are the Kraft Jet-Puffed Pumpkin Spice Marshmallows, which were awful, so I used them to play Jenga. Well not only are these impossible to play Jenga with, I have no desire to because they’re far too delicious and should simply be eaten instead.

While the Pumpkin Spice Moon Pies are also available in boxes of minis, I found me some Double Deckers and they’re immensely satisfying to bite through. The soft graham cookies taste great and the abundance of marshmallow keeps the pie from feeling too dry. The marshmallow is nice, fresh, and stretchy.

I’m particularly impressed with how good the pumpkin spice flavoring tastes. I actually had to check the ingredient list to see if they added natural spices like cinnamon and nutmeg to the cookies themselves, but it appears it’s just a really well-executed, artificially-flavored coating. Your Pumpkin Spice Pro-Tip of the Week is to zap these in the microwave for about 10 seconds, grab a fork, and savor a new favorite flavor of the fall.

Burning Questions:

  1. Did you burn your tongue? Yes.
  2. Are there pumpkin spices on the moon? We can’t prove they’re not.
  3. I didn’t know they still made Moon Pies. Me neither.

Place of Purchase: Weis Markets, but also available online at Moon Pie’s website.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10
