Sure, you can buy instant pancake mix, but who has the time for that shit?
Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread
Not me! I think I speak for everyone when I say “Sign me the f*ck up” for Trader Joe’s new Pancake Bread – a pre-made loaf cake of bread flavored like something that is not quite cake, and not quite bread…
I can’t wait for the Waffle Toast!
This new gloriousness is billed as Trader Joe’s twist on a buttermilk short stack, baked into a sweet, moist loaf. A loaf of what… cake? Bread?
Doesn’t even matter; just put it inside me.
I imagine many of you are already thinking this would make great French Toast. But I like to eat things, NOT make things, which is exactly why I’m about to eat a pancake loaf.
The prospect of doing NOTHING before eating pancakes – not even putting on pants to drive to IHOP – was a magical one, but turns out it was a little too good to be true.
I mean, don’t get me wrong; there actually is a pretty decent buttermilk cake flavor to this bread. But it kind of tastes like chewing on a flapjack without giving it the proper drowning of butter and maple syrup. There’s cinnamon in the topping which tastes good but distracts from the overall pancake flavor this is supposed to have. The cake has maple syrup, but I expected to taste it way more.
And I’ll just say it: this isn’t bread. This is a super soft, light & crumbly loaf cake that doesn’t feel terribly different than a coffee cake. It is, however, more oily.
Screw this… I’m going to IHOP, but I’m not gonna wear pants.
Burning Questions:
- Did they let you into IHOP with no pants? I’m under arrest.
- Is a pancake bread or a cake?I don’t f*cking know; I’m not a scientist.
- Are they really making Waffle Toast? I think those are called Eggo.
