Last year, an aspiring food blogger with no friends pitted the Skippy P.B. Bites Double Peanut Butter against the Skippy P.B. Bites Pretzel variety. The Double Peanut Butter variety won by a hair, with the sweeter version edging the salty-but-not-salty enough version. Eight months and eighty jars of peanut butter later, this food blogger will once again be the referee in the second battle in the Skippy P.B. Bites line. The two newest flavors battling for shelf space are Skippy P.B. Bites Graham Cracker & Skippy P.B. Bites Granola!
The Skippy P.B. Bites are marketed as portable, pop-able snacks that are completely covered in Skippy peanut butter coating. They’re made with real Skippy peanut butter and contain 5g of protein per serving, making them a great pre-workout snack on par with a king-sized Baby Ruth. They also come in a neat little plastic jar that you can stash in your gym bag or tuck behind your pillow for when you rather stay home and skip the gym altogether.
Time has proven that everything is better with peanut butter. This includes peanut butter itself, as the Double Peanut Butter variety is still our benchmark for success. Let’s see how Graham and Granola fare against one another, as well as against our current champion. It’s a battle of two new G’s against the OG.
Skippy P.B. Bites Graham Cracker are a bit different from predecessors in that they contain a honey peanut butter coating instead of just regular P.B. The graham crackers at the center are also identified as honey graham crackers. In fact, the word “honey” appears 4 times on the ingredient list. We get it. The lead flavor is the slightly-subdued peanut butter coating that does indeed carry a deeper sweetness thanks to the honey. This adds some complexity to the flavor that I appreciate.
The graham cracker center in the Skippy P.B. Bites Graham Cracker are nice and crunchy as expected. The graham flavor has a tough time fighting through the sweet & salty peanut butter coating. It will indeed surface late, and doesn’t feel out of place when it does. Perhaps including quadruple the honey (I think that’s how math works) is to blame for a bit of redundancy amongst the flavors. The graham cracker, even with the addition of honey, cuts some of the sweetness that I found admirable in the Skippy P.B. Bites Double Peanut Butter.
Those slight criticisms aside, Skippy P.B. Bites Graham Cracker make for enjoyable snacking. The outside coating melts and becomes creamy as you crunch your way through the graham crackers. Given the choice between crunch or no-crunch, I’m #TeamCrunch. But I wasn’t convinced that I prefered the flavor to the Double Peanut Butter. So I went back to the store and bought the Double Peanut Butter, and it’s still king for me.

Here’s the CliffsNotes on Skippy P.B. Bites Granola: similar but worse. Here we’ve gone back to the non-honey version of the peanut butter coating, but we’ve got honey in the granola at the center. Unfortunately, I just don’t really taste much of anything with the granola itself. It’s made with rolled oats but doesn’t include any interesting spices that I need for my granola to taste like something worth eating. The honey? Not enough to make a significant impact.
The texture of the granola center is more puffy and you can feel the separation between the oats as you chew. Skippy P.B. Bites Granola has a softer, less satisfying crunch than with the Skippy P.B. Bites Graham Cracker. The granola doesn’t cut the sweetness quite as much as the graham cracker did, but the granola just feels like an afterthought. I don’t know… whatever.

This site has by far the best and wittiest rating system, worth the read for that alone.
How much I look forward to trying the graham version: 12 out of 10
How much it blows that my 4 year old has severe nut allergies: “soy butter for us” out of 10
Haha, thank you Mark! I always like to imagine the people that scroll to the ratings without reading the review. The two random ratings usually make zero sense if you haven’t read, so that’s perfect. Sorry about the allergies… that makes eating everything in the world much more difficult.
