Rice Krispies haven’t been cool since… well, never.
Until now, that is.
(Maybe.)
Kellogg’s Birthday Cake, Cookies ‘N’ Creme Rice Krispie Treats
You kind of have to feel bad for the cereal, honestly. It is – almost literally – the white rice of cereal. Crisp rice puffs with nothing.
Imagine walking into Chinese restaurant, asking for a side of plain rice with no entree or soy sauce, and then sitting down to eat it. Oh, and they’re out of every beverage except milk, which they now carry for some reason. What a sad scene.
That’s Rice Krispies.
Things change considerably when you add a stick of butter and a bag full of marshmallows, but this very application would probably do wonders to a bowl of packaging peanuts too.
Now, I’m not about to hate on Rice Krispie Treats, but packaged versions have never really impressed me.
Let’s see if Kellogg’s attempt to make them more interesting, does in fact.
Kellogg’s Birthday Cake Rice Krispies Treats
Kellogg’s Birthday Cake Rice Krispie Treats have an icing layer both on bottom and drizzled on top, but not like the icing on a birthday cake… more like that nondescript sugary frosting on iced animal crackers.
As you chew, the’s frosting’s flavor gets pretty lost against the marshmallowy sweetness already present in a regular Rice Krispie Treats. It’s not bad of course, but it’ll be underwhelming to birthday cake lovers. In fact, there’s so many sprinkles that I actually tasted more sprinkle flavor than anything reminiscent of cake itself.
These are just decorated Rice Krispie Treats.
Burning Questions:
- Do you often eat at Chinese restaurants alone? Shut up.
- When’s your birthday? May 20.
- Remind me not to get you anything. C’mon… that’s not even a question.

Kellogg’s Birthday Cookies ‘N’ Creme Rice Krispies Treats
Kellogg’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme Rice Krispie Treats also have an icing bottom and drizzle, but this one is speckled with cocoa cookie crumbs.
You immediately get more flavor from the chocolate cookies than you did the sprinkles. Though it’s not especially intense, it’s at least more satisfying. The flavor fades back towards regular Rice Krispie Treats while only a fraction of the chocolate remains recognizable.
Since the marshmallowy is acting as creme almost by default, I think a chocolate drizzle would have had a much greater impact and made these stand out more as cookies & creme.
Burning Questions:
- Does anyone even show up to your birthday parties? We’re on the Cookies ‘N’ Creme one now.
- Why don’t you just make your own Rice Krispies Treats? WHY do you hate me so much?
- F*ck you. ?
