Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats Snap Crackle Poppers have a new flavor for 2020: Caramel! Please find our review of all flavors below, updated with caramel at the end.
Snap, Crackle, and Pop goes my belt buckle, cuz Lawd have they gone and done it now:
Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats Snap Crackle Poppers
Bagged. Rice Krispie Treats. Covered in garbage. ?
If I ever had any complaints about Rice Krispie Treats, they are:
- I have to make them.
- They are not covered in chocolate.
Kellogg’s took care of all of this and bagged them into bite-sized morsels, and I feel like it would be #rude of me if I didn’t stop flapping my gums and dip into all four flavors right now.
After all that garbage they covered it in for me. ❤
Chocolatey Snap Crackle Poppers
Notice the “y” in the Chocolatey Snap Crackle Poppers? This means that the “chocolate” covering these Rice Krispie Treats doesn’t actually contain enough cocoa bean to legally be called “chocolate” by FDA regulation. This doesn’t mean it’s not delicious or anything, but just know that Kellogg’s isn’t covering this in premium garbage.
I still quite enjoy them. There is a lot of sweetness in the actual Rice Krispie Treat itself, and the thin chocolatey exterior adds another dimension to the flavor. The texture is a soft crunch that’s very satisfying and quite addicting.
Kellogg’s has a made a Chocolatey Chip Rice Krispie Treats before, but I prefer this version that’s completely wrapped in chocolatey on all sides. The bite-size squares are more fun too.

Cookies ‘n’ Creme Snap Crackle Poppers
The Cookies ‘N’ Creme Snap Crackle Poppers opt for some kind of white chocolatey (or creme) coating that’s a more natural complement to regular Rice Krispie Treats, and then adds little cocoa bits for the “cookies part.”
These are good too, but the cocoa-pieces are so few and far between and play such a minor role that these fall far short of living up to the flavor they’re named after. So while I will (and have) eaten plenty, there’s a necessary point deduction for executing the particular flavor.

Vanilla Creme Snap Crackle Poppers
Here we go! The flavor that sounds the most unassuming is actually the best one, easily.
The Vanilla Creme Snap Crackle Popper takes everything that’s great about Rice Krispies Treats and drives the sweetness up with extra doses of vanilla and sugar. They essentially taste like the amazing Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treats cereal, if it starred alongside Rick Moranis in Honey I Blew Up the Kid.
No milk necessary, but like… why not?

Caramel Snap Crackle Poppers
New year, new Snap Crackle Popper…
Caramel is a nice change of pace from the chocolate and vanilla varieties, which don’t veer too far from what we normally see in Rice Krispies Treats. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that caramel flavor is weaker than you’d want it to be. The key to this working would have been a saltier profile, but I’m not getting that. This one only hints at caramel to bring only a marginally different kind of sweetness to a successful RKT recipe at its core.
I still think the “crack” in the “crackle” stands for real crack because I can’t seem to stop eating any of these.
Overall Rating: 7.5 out of 10
Summary
To be frank, it would have taken a monumental effort for Snap Crackle Poppers to suck. I’m happy to report that they do not suck.
What you see is what you get, and what you get is pretty damn good.

Love love love the vanilla creme ones! Glad you like them too 🙂
I’ve been thinking of making rice krispie treats with rice krispie treats cereal!
They’re not as good as I’d have thought. I’ve tried it a couple times, along with frosted Rice Krispies instead of regular. I love sugar, but decided Krispie treats are best with plain Krispies.
Snap crackle poppers lovely especially vanilla creme
