REVIEW: Stacy’s Gingerbread Pita Chips

by Junk Male · December 19, 2016

Given what you’ve seen me blog about, would you guess that I’m a cookie guy or a chip guy?

Spoiler Alert: I’m both!

The trend of flavoring chips likes cookies continues with Stacy’s Gingerbread Pita Chips. Though it didn’t really work with Sugar Cookie Pringles, I can appreciate chip companies taking big chances and flavoring their snack foods like an entirely different genre of snack foods. This cookie/chip hybrid is a much more fun formula than the other way of going about it: Cookie Thins, aka cookies that are thinly cut like potato crisps. Do I look like I’m on a diet?

Don’t answer that.

Stacy’s Gingerbread Pita Chips are made with sugar, spice, everything nice, and then pita bread.

The spice blend has all the gingerbread bases covered. It uses everything you’d expect like ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, brown sugar, and molasses. And then it has something you wouldn’t expect at all: rosemary extract.

How the heck did that get in there?

Don’t even worry about the rosemary. Stacey’s Gingerbread Pita Chips are stupid, insanely good.

Pita chips need to taste like pita chips, and these chips definitely do. They’ll begin with that floury, wheat-y taste that all good pita chips possess before finishing slightly sweet. This is appropriate; a true gingerbread cookie isn’t overly sweet anyway. I’m really glad the chips aren’t so dressed up that their pita qualities are overpowered.

Stacy’s Gingerbread Pita chips are coated with visible, prominent spice. The attention to detail on the spice blend is out of this world. The first two things to build are the cinnamon & sugar, which made me think about the outer coating of a churro. Layered underneath this were lesser amounts of the deeper spices – the ginger, the nutmeg, and the cloves. Dialing these three spices up might make these closer to a true gingerbread cookie, but I am confident that doing so would have compromised that “pita” taste I mentioned earlier. Stacy nailed the ideal ratios for this to work wonderfully as a hybrid snack.

I can’t stop eating Stacy’s Gingerbread Pita Chips. No shit, I panicked and bought three emergency bags after tearing through the first in an embarrassing number of minutes. This is a remarkably fun snacking experience unlike any other I’ve had before.

I leave you with a selfie of me after I ate Stacy’s Gingerbread Pita Chips:
