The hurricane. The United States military. Love.
These are some of the greatest forces on Earth, but they all pale in comparison to the smell of freshly baked cinnamon buns. Have you ever walked into a mall with the intention of buying new jeans, got an immediate whiff of the Cinnabon shop located strategically next to the entrance, proceeded to eat said Cinnabon, and then left the mall so satisfied that you completely forgot to buy jeans?
No? Just me? Bullshit.
The scent of warm cinnamon buns is so hypnotizing and sensational that we turned into a candle. God I love this country. Anyway, the taste of a cinnamon bun isn’t something to turn your nose up at, either.
Tonight we’ll be turning our noses and entire faces right down into a package of the newly released Cinnamon Bun Oreos.
Cinnamon Bun Oreos are a flavor that I’ve long requested amongst my inner circle (me, my Mom, and nobody else). I am a cinnamon fiend, adding it to nearly every coffee, every protein shake (lol fitness), and even my grilled chicken and vegetables (LOL DIET). Cinnamon is such a unique and flavorful spice that it works well in every single dessert that calls for it, and it can even fix most that don’t.
Nabisco has nailed some really complex flavors in their cremes before, but I think Cinnamon Bun Oreos have a fairly easy path to success. The real question is whether or not it’s so safe that Nabisco can’t deliver something truly special that will have you stalking Walmarts to buy out the stock, something I have been doing since these Cinnamon Bun Oreos were first leaked way back in September.
OMG OMG OMG these smell so much like cinnamon buns.
Ok… Cinnamon Bun Oreos feature a brand new cinnamon cookie wafer and a cinnamon bun flavored creme. What do you do when Nabisco introduces a new cookie wafer? You eat about 10 of them by themselves first. Having just done so, I can say that the taste is somewhere in between the hyper-sweet Golden Oreo wafer and a belVita breakfast biscuit. The spice cookie is far less sweet than the original, but the cinnamon is on the mild side. It’s solid… it works.
This left me with a mountain of Cinnamon Bun creme to try. And THIS, my dear friends, is the star of the show.
The creme in Cinnamon Bun Oreos is thick and glossy – like the cascading waterfall of icing on a Cinnabon. It has a buttercream-esque (butter!) flavor profile as well. Not only that, there are either faint traces of cinnamon in the creme or your mind has already begun to play connect the dots as that delicious cinnamon aroma invades the nostrils.
Eaten as a whole, everything comes together seamlessly. The wafer offers the doughy, carby goodness of a cinnamon roll while mellowing the ultra-sweet albeit still-delicious creme filling. Simply put, these just work really well. Cinnamon Bun Oreos aren’t so gimmicky that they feel like a brand new cookie altogether – they feel like they belong squarely in the Golden Oreo family. Nabisco didn’t need to reinvent the wheel with this formula.
This is a flavor we all wanted with damn good reason, and Nabisco delivered with damn good authority.
