REVIEW: Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzel Gelato
What a time to be alive! Apparently jealous that Ben & Jerry’s has rolled out a bunch of new ice creams to ring in 2016, Talenti is throwing 7 new flavors at our faces as well. The new additions are:
#38: Talenti Chocolate Sorbetto
#39: Talenti Vanilla Caramel Swirl
#40: Talenti Coconut Almond Fudge
#41: Talenti Key Lime Pie
#42: Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzel
#43: Talenti Wild Blackberry
Publix Exclusive: Talenti Peach Butter Biscuit
The decision on where to start was an easy one:
Peanut butter is awesome, and combining it with more junk food is even more awesome. Recently, we reviewed Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter & Cookies. Scrapping the cookies and going much harder on the peanut butter, Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzel features a peanut butter flavored gelato base, a rich peanut butter swirl, and chocolate covered pretzels as the featured junk food mix-in. Can we just keep adding different kinds of junk food to peanut butter and ice cream? If Haagen Dazs rolls out a Peanut Butter & Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch, you can find me dead inside a grocery store freezer, bloated with a smile on my face.
Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzel doesn’t offer much to look at, visually. Their pints are rarely the food porn that Ben & Jerry’s pints are. Most of the magic is contained in the base, and that is especially true with Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzel. Guys, just wow. This base? Wow, wow, wow.
The taste of fresh salted peanuts in Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzels rings true in every damn bite. No wonder, because peanuts are the third ingredient in this ice cream. There’s peanut flour to boot, too. Let it melt on your tongue and you may think you’re eating cold, creamy, delicious peanut butter. My previous favorite peanut butter ice cream was Haagen Dazs Peanut Butter Pie. I don’t want to jump the shark, but we may have a new champion.
The pretzel in Talenti Peanut Butter Pretzel gelato come via pretzels balls that have been dipped in chocolate just because. There aren’t a ton of them here, but they are large enough that you look forward to them and will have fun mining for them. They offer a satisfying pretzel crunch to break up that really smooth texture, as glorious as it is. The chocolate is partially lost behind the savory peanut base and the huge saltiness in these pretzels, but I’m completely ok with this. The flavor of the pretzels just meshes wonderfully with this fantastic base, and I don’t want anything to distract me from it. Some might argue this a tad one-dimensional, but I argue “shut up” to those people. Peanut butter lovers… buy hard and buy often.
It’s Peanut Butter Pretzel Time Rating: 8 out of 10
It’s All About That Base, Bout That Base, Low Pretzel Rating: 9 out of 10
