REVIEW: Trader Joe’s and the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe-Joe’s
Who the hell named this product? This review will be read by zero because nobody is going to correctly search: “Trader Joe’s And the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe-Joe’s.”
Here are some ways I envision it going wrong:
– “Trader Joe’s Outstanding Joe-Joe’s”
– “Trader Joe’s Joe-Joe Box”
– “Trader Joe-Joe’s Multiple Flavor Thing”
– “Trader Joe’s and the…” (*Opens New Tab*) “ Netflix.com”
You’ve got a tried-and-true product in the Joe-Joe cookie (TJ’s version of Oreos) covered in various chocolate with all sorts of toppings and flavorings. At its core is the same principle that make limited edition Oreos so appealing to everybody. Here’s the full description of Trader Joe’s and the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe-Joe’s:
“A collection of past & present Joe-Joe’s sandwich cookies decadently enrobed in various chocolates with drizzles and sprinkles.”
Yum city. The four varieties are:
- Peanut Butter (in milk chocolate with a dark chocolate drizzle)
- Double Chocolate (in dark chocolate with a milk chocolate drizzle)
- Peppermint (in dark chocolate with peppermint sprinkles)
- Ginger (in white chocolate with ginger snap sprinkles)
We’re going to jump right into the review, because just typing that out filled me with eager anticipation as well as actual fear for my life expectancy.
First up is Peanut Butter, and day-um! It was hard to imagine Trader Joe’s going wrong here with chocolate + peanut butter, but this cookie is superb. The peanut butter permeates the entire cookie sandwich, and the creamy element that defines a refined milk chocolate really stands out. The quality of the peanut butter itself is also excellent. For whatever reason, I was expecting a stiffer peanut-butter flavored creme, like something that a traditional Oreo might have. But this peanut butter was really smooth and creamy.
It’s difficult to dissect anything additive about the dark chocolate drizzle, but it’s a sexy decoration for a cookie sandwich whose technical execution is outstanding as is. We’re off to a great start with Trader Joe’s and the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe-Joe’s.

Next up is Double Chocolate. This sounds the most boring of the bunch, but I can never count out Trader Joe and his ability to deliver on otherwise mundane formulas. One bite confirmed my hunch. This cookie sandwich is something else as well. It’s kind of hard to break down, and the description does’t provide sufficient clarity. This flavor is “double chocolate in dark chocolate with a milk chocolate drizzle.” Does that mean the cream itself is a combination of two kinds of chocolate, or is it twice the dosage of just one?
No matter – this cookie is great too. I picked up some unexpected coffee undertones that I enjoyed a lot. The dark chocolate robe adds some bitterness, which the sweet cream counterbalances to a level that is well above-average. Two for two with Trader Joe’s and the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe-Joe’s.

These cookies have a creamy, peppermint center that’s studded with tiny candy cane bits and sandwiched between two chocolate peppermint wafer cookies. Then the whole damn thing is sprinkled with more candy cane pieces. The textures are the most fun yet, with the crunchy candy cane bits adding lots to love.
The mint-to-chocolate balance is just right. These were so tasty that I budgeted half a cookie for review purposes but ended up eating two full cookies. Being that each cookie is 130 calories with 7g of fat and 11g of sugar, this speaks volumes to both the cookie’s quality and how far I have fallen from my peak fitness level.

Our last entry in Trader Joe’s and the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe-Joe’s is certainly the most unique on paper. The Ginger cookie sandwich is the only one of the bunch covered in white chocolate, and it contains ginger sprinkles. Anddd I have a new favorite cookie. I’m willing to bet that the safer palette would say Peanut Butter or Peppermint was their favorite, but for the more adventurous like me? Ginger wins this contest.
The spices here are divine – the ginger is prevalent without being overpowering like in Trader Joe’s Wintertide Tea Cookie Collection. On the sweet side, we have plenty of molasses, brown sugar, and white chocolate that orchestrate a symphony of flavors that blend together in concert. I love the spices here, and the white chocolate coating imparts a sweet vanilla creaminess that really takes this cookie to the next level. Ginger is somewhat polarizing – I get that. This might not be your personal favorite, but if you do have an appreciation for all things ginger, this cookie is awesome.

Trader Joe’s and the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe-Joe’s is a remarkable winter seasonal package that, thankfully, has returned every year since its introduction in 2013. If you’ve slept on it in the past, stop sleeping on it in the present. It highlights Trader Joe’s solid track record in delivering superior quality on both safer formulas and riskier ones. And no, as much as we love Trader Joe’s willingness to experiment with quirky products, we aren’t automatic fans of everything we review by Trader Joe’s. But take our word on this one – Trader Joe’s and the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe-Joe’s is worth every penny and worth every calorie.
