Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Frosted Sugar Cookie & Hot Cocoa Marshmallow Kettle Corns are back on shelves! Please find a refreshed version of our original review below – the Hot Cocoa Marshmallow formula is different in 2017.
I’m very excited for tonight’s review. Before the onslaught of winter flavors invaded shelves, we rooted for sugar cookie to dominate this winter. Wish granted.
What we didn’t predict was for hot cocoa everything to take over store shelves as well, but thus far we’re completely on board.
Angie must have some kind of sixth sense, because she introduced both Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Frosted Sugar Cookie and Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Hot Cocoa Marshmallow kettle corn to her Holidrizzle line.
The last time we reviewed Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Popcorn, we made it a movie night and reviewed the greatest movie of all-time: Can’t Hardly Wait. Continuing with the tradition, tonight we’re going to eat Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop kettle corn and watch the second greatest movie of all-time.
That movie, of course, is The Wedding Singer starring Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore.
For the optimal experience, please click every link and watch the Wedding Singer along with me.
“Why can’t you be more like your brother? Harold would never beat up his Landlord…”
Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Frosted Sugar Cookie kettle corn is frosted with a white glaze and some haphazard pink sprinkles. It claims to offer “all the warmth and goodness of freshly baked cookies without getting flour all over your counters.” While this is true, I certainly have gotten popcorn kernels all over my lap, floor, and cat.
But I’m not here to review the tidiness of this Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Frosted Sugar Cookie kettle corn. I want to know if it tastes like sugar cookies.
Man, I wish people would pay me for services with meatballs instead of money.
Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Frosted Sugar Cookie kettle corn isn’t hyper sweet, largely retaining the saltiness of plain popcorn but adding the sugary backdrop of kettle corn.
Is it frosted? Sure! Is it sugar? You betcha! Does it taste like sugar cookies?! Not really.
This is like the vanilla equivalent of caramel corn. It works really well despite the fact that the cookie element isn’t there. It’s a sugary popcorn with a delicate balance of sweet & salty, which will never disappoint anyone. Except maybe Robbie Hart… because it seems that nothing will cheer him up after his fiancee left him at the alter because she no longer loved him.
Cheer up, Robbie. I’m sure greater things are to come.

“Everybody spread the word… I live in my sister’s baseeeement!”
Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Hot Cocoa Marshmallow has a cocoa flavored coating drizzled over crunchy corn. Angie’s calls it “a wintry treat so triumphant you’ll hope to get snowed in just to have more time to snack.” LOL. Since I’m basically no different than Fatty, Sideburns Lady, and the mutants over at Table 9, I snack in solitude in my basement all the time without regards to the weather situation.
Let’s just get to the review because I, too, will have a heart attack if I don’t eat again soon.
Reviewing this Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Hot Cocoa Marshmallow is about as easy as Christine Taylor in the Wedding Singer – it’s good, but could be better.
The 2017 version definitely removed that awful burnt popcorn flavor these had when we last saw them in 2015. The marshmallow element is admirably present, but the cocoa drizzle still enough to evoke hot chocolate. Maybe I’m losing my mind too, but I’m just not in love with these the same way I am Frosted Sugar Cookie.
The cocoa drizzle and flavoring on this popcorn is sparse, which means you get plain popcorn in some bites and some underwhelming chocolate flavor in others. With many successes we’ve had so far with hot cocoa in junk food lately, the pressure was on and Angie just missed on these – kind of like Robbie’s best friend, the only limo driver in town.
It grew on me as I ate more (the whole bag), mostly because it’s still popcorn and it’s appropriate for movie night.

All in all, these two Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Holidrizzle popcorns had some successes and misses. Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Frosted Sugar Cookie was as good as Grandma’s meatballs, but I did not want to grow old with Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Hot Cocoa Marshmallow. Movie night was a resounding success, however.
Watching The Wedding Singer for the 500th time was just as good as the first 499. I give the slight nod to Can’t Hardly Wait, but we’re splitting hairs here.

“They were cones!”
Our absolute favorite scene in the movie.
I remember seeing the wedding singer but I am ashamed to say…I can’t remember the movie at all. I loved 50 first dates though (another Adam sandler and drew Barrymore movie)! And Angie’s seems to have good ideas but sometimes fails on the execution part. I think had they used a combo of cocoa powder and milk powder (aka a hot cocoa mix) and maybe tossed those hot cocoa marshmallows while the glaze was still wet it could have gotten there. I wonder what the next hot cocoa product will be? Do you think a hot cocoa Oreo could be successful?
Sarah, you need to watch the Wedding Singer again. Trust me. 50 First Dates is also one of my favorite feel-good movies. Any time it’s on TV, I have a standing order to drop whatever it is I’m doing and watch it.
Nabisco has shown us they can do pretty well with marshmallows for Crispy Marshmallow, so it’s possible. I’d like to say it would be tough for them to make it feel that different than a regular Oreo, but I said that about Brownie Batter. At this point, I just trust them to do a good job with it.
