During the dog days of winter, I have two preferred methods to keep warm:
1) Drink hot chocolate to combat the chill.
2) Eat cookies til I get too fat to notice it.
Thanks to Pillsbury, I no longer have to pick between the two!
Pillsbury Hot Cocoa Cookies! Because why drink your drinks when you can eat them instead?
A perennial powerhouse in break-and-bakes, Pillsbury’s latest limited edition cookie combines everything you love about hot cocoa (chocolate, marshmallows) with everything you love about cookies (cookies).
The cookie dough is cocoa-based with chocolate chips and marshmallow bits embedded within.
PLEASE DO NOT EAT RAW COOKIE DOUGH, the package begs.
The RAW COOKIE DOUGH is delicious. The chocolate’s sweetness is “artificial” in the appropriate way – it tastes very much like that package of Swiss Miss hot cocoa mix. But it also finishes with the richness of the finest, fanciest Devil Dog you can buy at gas stations around the country.
Ok, so maybe that doesn’t sound incredible to you, but that’s pretty gourmet for a guy whose published no less than 13 different Twinkie reviews.
When baked properly, Pillsbury Hot Cocoa Cookies become much like their namesake hot cocoa (they get hot).
I’ve long said “Hot cocoa is better when it’s hot,” and these cookies are no exception to the rule. The chocolate chips get melty, the marshmallows get gooey, and the whole thing takes on elements of a brownie both in taste and texture. The cookies have a slight crunch on the outside and a chewy, chocolatey interior.
Despite being simple, great fun, there’s definitely some room for improvement. Most cookies were adequately marshmallowed, but some cookies had some dry spells. The chocolate chips are a bit redundant and don’t really add much in the way of flavor, so I’m inclined to believe that more marshmallows would have been ideal.
All in all though, Pillsbury Hot Cocoa Cookies deliver as they advertise. You won’t be disappointed nor will you be blown away. But one thing’s for sure…
I’ve never felt more warm in my entire life. ?

So, I’m not a marshmallow gal. Are the marshmallows a major flavor, or is it just a slight flavor like in a real hot chocolate?
It’s defonitely only slight! I think I would have enjoyed these if it were more, but you might like them more than I did if marshmallows were your concern. It’s a background flavor for sure.
It sounds like these totally deliver on their promise. (Should that have been premise?) I’m excited to try these, thanks for the tasting notes.
