If half the time you’re the life of the party, but the other half of the time you’re a sad, boring sack of shit, there is a new candy bar mash-up with your exciting, stupid name on it.
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate & Reese’s Pieces
What feels like an automatic lock for the worst Reese’s candy bar by default has arrived with new Hershey’s Milk Chocolate & Reese’s Pieces.
I hate to sound like such a Negative Nancy, but we are fresh on the heels of Reese’s Pieces being stuffed into both Reese’s Cups and Reese’s Nutrageous. Stuffing them into a plain Hershey’s milk chocolate bar just feels like a serious step backwards.
Or maybe I’m just underestimating how simple and boring most of us are, most of the time…
The Hershey’s half is you at work on a Monday, and the Reese’s Pieces half is you at the holiday party after a couple shots of tequila.
The bar is indeed exactly what it sounds like: a Hershey’s bar with miniature Reese’s Pieces all throughout. Visually it looks like a Hershey’s bar that has contracted The Herp, which I guess is precisely what happens when a Hershey’s Bar and Reese’s Pieces f*ck each other.
Right off the bat, though, I must give credit for adequate Reese’s Pieces coverage. There’s plenty of them sandwiched in here to provide a boost in both flavor and texture over a standard Hershey’s Bar that I would otherwise never buy.
The little candy shells of the Reese’s Pieces introduce something of a Krackel element, though it’s much better because peanut butter is better than crisped rice.
Now all that said, the end result is still somewhat pedestrian. A peanut buttery element is present, but not so much that I would take this over any Reese’s product currently offered. The slightly more bitter Hershey’s Milk Chocolate provides an extra bit of contrast to create something “new” enough, but it’s otherwise just a vehicle for delivering what I really want – the Reese’s Pieces. And when I think to all the Hershey’s varieties, I can’t even say this is better than the Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme or the Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Mint.
However, if you’re the type of person who LOVES the plain Hershey’s bar – probably the same type of person who makes everyone take their shoes off when they have guests over – then Hershey’s Milk Chocolate & Reese’s Pieces will not disappoint.
The packaging is absolutely killer, too.
