A flavor so nice, they did it twice!
Nabisco Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos
If you’re excited that they FINALLY did a Nutella Oreo, you’re stupid!
Three years ago, almost to the day, Nabisco introduced Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos as a limited edition. They featured a chocolate hazelnut flavored creme sandwiched between two Golden Oreos, and they were incredible. I still have a pack in my freezer to this day, which would be a testament to how great they were if not for the fact that my entire freezer is filled to the brim with dead Oreos dating back to 2015.
I shit you not there are more Oreos behind these.
A key difference this time around is that the new Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos use the chocolate Oreo wafers instead of the Golden ones, so the goal of this review is to determine if the switch is an upgrade or a downgrade.
The chocolate hazelnutty aroma from these Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos is admittedly more faint than I hoped, but as I continued to shove them up against and borderline inside my nostrils, I could definitely get that Nutella vibe.
Luckily the TASTE is far more transparent. The creme tastes very convincingly of the popular chocolate hazelnut spread. And if my memory doesn’t fail me, it feels identical to the golden Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos from 2018.
We’ll do a couple of comparisons. I first compare them to Java Chip Oreos solely due to their simultaneously release, and I will say that I vastly prefer these. There’s more depth here and though this creme has done before, these Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos, they offer a new interpretation by pairing them with the chocolate wafer this time around. And let’s be honest: if it was socially acceptable to drink a cup of Nutella each morning instead of coffee, I would.
But how do they stack up against the golden Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos? Well, I REALLY enjoy these, but I’ve got to give the nod to the golden ones. I find that when you eat these new Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos as a complete cookie, the deep cocoa in the wafer interferes a bit with the chocolate part of the chocolate hazelnut creme. Instead of feeling like I’m eating an Oreo with Nutella on it, I feel like I’m eating one with just a hazelnut-flavored creme. THIS IS STILL A GOOD THING, and these Oreos are still terrific.
