When something bites, you bite back…
Hershey’s Bites
Take, for instance, General Mills’ Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bites. I found the donuts rather rubbery, the filling oddly cheesy, and the texture a little dry. But most egregious of all, the cinnamon sugar simply didn’t do Cinnamon Toast Crunch any justice.
They basically bit the big one, but it appears General Mills is eager to bounce back.
Now, I don’t know who from General Mills is blowing who from Hersey’s to be able to use their branding this brazenly on the package, but Hershey’s Bites are actually a General Mills product. This is the chocolatey cousin of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bites. It doesn’t even matter that I didn’t love the CTC Bites; I’d be a fool not to try a chocolate version, and Mama didn’t raise no fool.
Hershey’s Bites are soft donut bites with a sweet & creamy chocolatey filling that you nuke in the microwave for 30 seconds, or bake in the oven for 8 minutes.
Caaaan you guess which one I chose first?
The good news is these didn’t have to live up to the same standards as Cinnamon Toast Crunch – the perfect breakfast cereal – like the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bites did.
The bad news is, they might be worse.
Just, no…. nope. The microwave is a bust as the filling starts to seep out on its own and the chocolate takes on a weird profile. The texture is way too soft – like mush, really.
I’m not trying to be all snooty here with my microwaved donuts, but I seriously rather just have a plain Chocolate Munchkin from Dunkin… and those aren’t even filled.
The oven preparation yields better Hershey’s Bites, but it completely changed what I was expecting. The outside stayed crispy and they took on a cookie profile more than a donut. Slow-cooking them preserved a more chocolatey flavor in the filling that’s generally unoffensive… but still mediocre.
Reminded me of a Snackwell’s Devil’s Food Cookie in some ways, but I had to go through hoops and hurdles to get here – like finding those damn oven mitts, and scraping shitty burnt chocolate off my stained cookie sheet.
Burning Questions:
- These look really unappetizing. Questions, please.
- Why do they look so unappetizing? I don’t know.
- Are you sure they’re not turds? They might be turds.

Are they fully cooked? What about eating them room temp or cold?
