Ben & Jerry’s Bob Marley’s One Love is back on shelves for a limited time! Please find our original review republished below:
One Love. One Heart. One Thousand, One Hundred and Sixty Calories.
If there’s one thing that can make us all get together and feel alright, it’s ice cream.
Ben & Jerry’s Bob Marley’s One Love ice cream is the latest limited batch flavor, debuting in the U.S. after a successful tour in the U.K. This flavor serves a great cause with a portion of all sales going to the One Love Youth Camp, an arts program run by The Bob Marley Foundation and Partners for Youth Empowerment to help promote social change in Jamaica.
A secondary cause it supports is my insatiable appetite for new flavors of everything.
Ben & Jerry’s Bob Marley’s One Love ice cream is made with a banana ice cream base, graham cracker swirl, caramel swirl, and fudge peace signs (because he was all about the warm and fuzzy shit). Ben & Jerry’s claims this cool concoction will have you at maximum relaxation – a tribute to the man himself and what he stood for. With all due respect to the legend, Ben & Jerry’s should have gone with a marijuana ice cream, fudge peace signs, and pot brownie chunks. He was all about that shit too, and it would have been a lot more relaxing than bananas.
The banana ice cream is as refreshing as it’s always been for as long as Chunky Monkey has existed. It’s naturally sweet like ripe bananas and it’s really great to see it spotlighted in a new flavor. Dare I say, it might be Ben & Jerry’s most potent and powerful base as far as delivering the exact flavor it claims to be.
We have two swirls to work with in Ben & Jerry’s Bob Marley’s One Love ice cream: the wonderful graham cracker swirl from Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake, and the caramel swirl from like, half their pints. The caramel swirl outweighed the graham cracker swirl as far as density in mine. Both of the swirls pair really excellently with banana, particularly the graham when you get it. You’ll know you’ve hit graham when you get a little grit & crunch, and the combo with banana reminds me of that Nilla Wafer Banana Pudding dessert that I love. The more plentiful caramel swirl adds an enjoyable buttery element; it just doesn’t stand out as well as it does in some other flavors because the banana ice cream is quite sweet as is.
Oddly enough, there weren’t many chocolate peace signs in mine. This is peculiar because so many of their pints with fudge flakes rely on them a little too much. With Bob Marley’s One Love, I would have welcomed some more chocolate because it always goes so well with banana. And as I worked down the entire pint, I hit a dry spell where BOTH swirls were too absent. Thankfully things picked up again towards the bottom. The overall pint felt like the opposite of Truffle Kerfuffle: the chosen mix-ins meshed together better in One Love, but the frequency of mix-ins should have been higher.
All in all, I enjoyed Ben & Jerry’s Bob Marley’s One Love ice cream. You won’t be disappointed with your purchase and your money will go towards a great cause.
In summary, get high like the man himself and this is an easy 10 out of 10.
