Pillsbury Salted Caramel Apple Cookies are back! Please find our review below:
I know it sounds a little weird, but a recent study showed that adding salt to any fruit improves its flavor.
Sure the study was conducted by some kind of marshmallow-man with a chef hat, and he also added sugar, flour, and caramel, but whatever… Pillsbury Salted Caramel Apple cookies are here!
Feeling a little pumpkin’d to death? Caramel apple and salted caramel are the two most popular fall alternatives (fall-ternatives) for you haters out there, and these new cookies combine both.
Pillsbury Salted Caramel Apple are the break-and-bake variety, and they produce 12 BIG ASS cookies.
Many recent studies show that you should not eat raw cookie dough under any circumstances whatsoever, but studying was never really my thing. The raw cookie dough tastes like flour, sugar, and apple-flavored salmonella.
To prepare, bake the dough at 350 degrees for 14-18 minutes. This is plenty of time to eat something pumpkin while you wait. Anything, pumpkin, because 14-18 minutes is about as long as I can go without it.
The cookies are crafted with sugar cookie dough, tart apple bits, and pockets of sweet salted caramel.
I’m reminded quickly how much I enjoy Pillsbury’s sugar cookie dough. They’re sugary-sweet but have a good buttery element to balance things out.
One of the best things about these cookies is the texture. They’re thick cookies that stay crispy-crumbly on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside, aided further by the caramel pockets. The taste of dried apples surfaces every once in a while, though not as strongly as the aroma of the raw cookie dough predicted.
Tasty for sure.
The caramel presence could be turned up a notch too, but again… it’s there. Some bites in particular I noticed a little extra burst of salt. I just wish this was more consistent because I really enjoyed the subtleties when it occurred. Above all else, their infamous sugar cookie dough is the star.
Pillsbury Salted Caramel Apple Cookies are a good option when you don’t want pumpkin, but I have to say it… these would be better with pumpkin.
